∆ New Years Day Surprise ∆
It was New Year's Eve, and Violet Mae Lupin was on a mission.
A mission for socks.
And the socks were for her dear new husband because his socks were no longer socks. They were very much nearly rags that, if twisted and wrapped around his feet, would actually cover his toes.
Barely.
So she was going to get him socks.
Socks, some new shirts/jumpers, and some new pants–his other ones hemmed and tucked so many times Violet was almost certain he had had them since fourth year and hadn't gotten new ones since then.
She didn't know what came over her when she decided to go on the sporadic shopping trip.
Maybe it was the guilt of feeling like a burden as she continued to recover from the attack. Maybe it was because she could not believe he did not have a single pair of socks without holes. But she did know that at the core of the sudden need to get these gifts for Remus, it was because she wanted the love of her life to be warm, clothed, and seen as he saw her.
Worthy of all things–material and abstract.
So she did as planned because the new year was about to start.
And for the New Year, Remus would have new pieces in his wardrobe.
Including new socks.

It was New Year's Eve, and Remus Lupin was on a mission.
The only thing was that Remus was not much of a cook.
He could cook with guidance–as he helped his mum a lot in the kitchen. However, when it came to cooking or even baking by himself, Remus was quite literally useless.
At least, that is how he saw himself.
Violet was a savant in th kitchen, though. She had been since she was young. But since the attack and the coma, Violet had very slowly gotten back to cooking–no matter how exhausted it made her. The food was some of the best Remus had eaten in a long time–but he hated how withdrawn it made his wife, his heart, when they finally ate or retired for the night.
She could barely function–her hands always shaking and eyes always watching. She was becoming a slightly fractured version of herself.
She was still Violet Mae, his Lottie.
But Remus could see in the lines of her face that she was tired.
So when she said she was going to meet Lily for a little girl's afternoon before New Year's Day, finally having the energy to leave the house, Remus urged her to go.
And while she was gone, he would make her a feast as best he could.
He had already pulled a variety of foods out of the pantry and ice box–and it was apparent that none of the dishes he was going to be putting together were going to coincide in any way.
But he refused to allow his dear new wife to feel the need to work going into the new year.
She deserved the world–always had and always will.
So he would make sure she knew that, showing his love as best he could as the earth finished another turn around the sun.
