"You really should try and sleep, Angelos Mou," Silas murmured as he felt her startle awake. Every time she started to drift off to sleep, she would force herself to wake up. It was upsetting him and he knew that the rest of the family was upset about it as well.
"Fine," she whimpered as her skin tightened, having her wince as Silas ran his fingers through her hair.
"Can Doc give you some medicine to help your pain, please?" he asked gently.
"Fine," she said through clenched teeth.
"Alright Sweetheart," Sean smiled as he came into the room. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine."
"Good," he said as he took in the way Silas was clenching his jaw. "It's time for me to check your lungs again, are you ready?" She barely nodded then watched as he walked towards her. "Are you hurting?"
"Fine."
"Seems like that's the only word she knows now," Brandon frowned. "She's hurting Doc. And she's exhausted but won't sleep."
"I fine," she glared at him. Well, tried anyway but it hurt to even breathe so it was really more like she barely squinted at him.
Sean frowned as he watched her, "how long have you been wheezing, Sweetheart?" he asked. He didn't like how shallow her breathing was or how pale her skin was. "Silas?"
"Since you revived her, Doc," he frowned. "Thought you heard when you checked her."
"It was clearer then," Sean's eyes narrowed as he felt her neck. "You have a fever too. Be honest with me Sweetheart, any nausea or confusion?"
"Immmm fine," she mumbled as her eyes dropped. Sean started to say something but her body jerked, her eyes opening, taking in her surroundings.
"You need to sleep, Sweetheart," Sean lowered his voice.
"No," she pouted.
"Why?" Silas and Sean asked at the same time.
"Noseep," she mumbled as she pressed her fingers into Silas' thigh. Wincing at the pain that coursed up her arms, her jaw clenched. "I fine."
"No you aren't," he sighed softly. "And it's okay to not be okay, Jennifer. I know that you are confused about us, but right now it is not about us being your husbands and you being our wife. Right now this is me speaking to you as your doctor and you are my patient. I need you to tell me the truth so I can help you heal. Will you please tell me how you are feeling so I can help you? Please?"
Her eyes narrowed as she looked at him with suspicion. Sean held her gaze as he waited patiently even though everything in him was pushing him to caring for her. It was testing his restraint on both his doctor side and husband side to wait for her response. No one better give him shit for this. A hand on his back had him exhaling the breath he didn't even realize he was holding. Rhythmic tapping on his shoulder gave him a sense of warmth and relief. Owen always did have this uncanny sense of knowing just how to calm him without having to say anything. His grasp into his collarbone tightened milliseconds after Sean felt the tremble, if Owen was trembling from restraint that meant the others were too. Good, he wasn't the only one waiting in anticipation to hear her response.
Eternity passed before a soft sigh left her chapped lips, "no feel good."
Sean's shoulders dropped in relief as his muscles relaxed. "Okay, Jennifer," he said as he reached over and lifted her wrist into his hold. "Thank you for telling me the truth. I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions and I need you to keep being honest with me so I can get you feeling better, okay?"
"Please, Angelos Mou," Silas murmured as he took the hair tie that Gabe was holding out. He quickly braided her hair then placed a soft kiss to the back of her head. It was so soft she wondered if she had imagined it but the feeling of him rubbing her back in a soothing manner had her thinking otherwise.
"I do not like how you're breathing," Sean admitted. "You're not getting enough oxygen into your lungs. I want to put the oxygen mask on you to help your lungs not get overworked. How about we do one tap for yes, two taps for no, and three taps for maybe or you don't know?"
Silas smiled when he felt her small fingers tap his leg, "Good girl," he said as he nodded at Sean. "Not too tight, Doc."
Sean smirked as he grabbed the oxygen mask, "I won't, Si, I promise."
"What's going on with Baby, Doc?" North finally asked. He couldn't wait any longer for answers. He didn't like how pale she was or how her body was trembling. The only reason he wasn't holding her himself was the knowledge that she was safe in Silas' arms and he was just as deadly as North was, if not deadlier than Raven. The man didn't talk about his kills so only a select few knew and that was a secret they would take to their graves, North included.
"Dry drowning," Sean stated as he adjusted the mask to fit her properly. "Is that too tight, Jennifer?"
"No," Silas answered for her after he felt the two taps.
"Nausea?"
"Yes."
"Headache?"
"Yes."
"Confusion?"
"Yes."
"Do you think once your breathing is better you can try and eat something so I can give you some medicine to help you sleep?"
Silas felt three taps, "She doesn't know."
"Okay," Sean nodded. "How about we just try a few small bites in a bit?"
Three taps once more had Silas frowning, "Maybe."
"Okay," Sean smiled softly even though his mind began to spiral, "well, let's just see how you are feeling in about thirty minutes and then go from there."
"Kitten." Her eyes widened as she watched Raven walk slowly over to her. "Trust me?" Tears filled her eyes as Raven dropped to his knees in front of her. "I protect you. Promise." He pulled his favorite knife out of pocket, picked up her hand and turned it over so her palm was up before he placed the knife into her hand. Her eyes dropped down to the metal. Kitten's Bear was engraved in her favorite color along with the day she told them she wanted to marry all of them. Her eyes rose back to his dark ones. "Nyet leave Silas hold," his voice was deeper than normal. "Nyet move. I nyet let no one in. I kill them, I professional Russian. I protect you, Kitten. Sleep, please."
