"What are you trying to do?"
Jennifer looked up to see Sean shutting the hospital door behind him with confusion and worry on his face. "Um..."
"Sweetheart–"
"Shhh," she whispered, glancing around the room to make sure everyone was still sleeping.
"Ok," Sean whispered. He walked over to her bedside, "What are you trying to do, Sweetheart?" Her feet were hanging over the side of the bed.
"Bathroom," she whispered meekly.
"You have a catheter in, Sweetheart," Sean explained.
His eyes searched the room, sometime while he was doing rounds Silas had swapped places with Brandon and was fast asleep on the couch with North. Brandon was asleep on the bed and Raven was asleep on the floor with Corey on his lap. Owen was asleep in the chair by the bed with a book in his lap. Axel and Marc were asleep on the second bed. Gabe and Luke were asleep on the floor by the couch and Kota, Victor, and Nathan were asleep on the floor on the other side of the bed.
"K?" she whispered slowly.
Sean smiled when he saw the clear confusion on her face. "You don't have the energy to go to the bathroom. The catheter will allow you to pee without having to go to the bathroom. It goes in a tube into a bag that I or Momma Erica will change out throughout the day so you can focus on getting your strength and health back. Now how about we get back in bed?"
"Peas no," She weakly shook her head. Sean tilted his head slightly in confusion. "Walk," she sighed, "bathroom, peas?"
Sean watched her for a moment before realization dawned on him. She wanted to move and not be stuck once more so she felt trapped again. He felt like an idiot for a few seconds for not realizing it sooner but then the moment passed and he knew this was a moment to not only get him to care for her but to earn her trust even more. He just had to tread carefully so he and the others didn't overstep her boundaries. This was an important moment and he had to be careful with his next decision. It would affect the whole family, not just him.
"Okay, Sweetheart," he nodded, "but only if you lean against me and let me help you. I can't and more importantly won't risk you falling and injuring yourself."
She opened her mouth to protest but the aches in her bones had her letting out a tired sigh, "Kay."
Sean couldn't help the smirk that formed, "thank you, Sweetheart." He began pulling on some gloves, "I need you to lay back so I can remove the catheter before I help you to the bathroom. It will feel uncomfortable, I'm sorry."
She dropped back onto the bed, letting out an exhausted sigh. She didn't realize how much it took just to sit up on her own and even though she didn't want to admit it, she was glad Sean was insistent on helping her. It was kinda confusing to her that they were so adamant about staying by her side. She thought for sure that they would not come rescue her, much less be so stubborn about helping her heal. The fact that they found her Maymee and brothers and brought them to her and Sean wasn't forcing her to stay in bed, yet helping her be more independent really threw her. Maybe Silas was right when he was talking to her about honoring their vows.
Her eyes drifted over to Owen. The way he saw her panicking earlier and settled her by calling her by her role in their lives just like at the beginning of their marriage and leaned close enough that his scent surrounded her yet wasn't so close that it was overwhelming was something she didn't realize she needed as much as she did. How he knew what to do, what she needed, his voice, his presence, his scent, his control...all of them in fact...was it possible Father and Novak were wrong after all?
"Okay, Sweetheart, let's get you sitting back up nice and very slowly, take as much time as you need," Sean whispered as he walked over to her side. "I don't want you getting dizzy."
"Yes Sir," she murmured as she pressed against Brandon for support.
"You're okay, Babe," Brandon mumbled sleepily as he wrapped his arm around her stomach. "We're here, back to sleep, protect you." He kissed her shoulder while shifting even closer to her.
"Let go, Bran," Sean chuckled as he gently began to pull Brandon's arm off Jennifer. "She wants to go to the bathroom."
"Okay," Brandon yawned as he sat up. "I'll carry you."
"No," Sean shook his head, making Brandon look up at him in confusion. "Our wife wants to walk," Brandon opened his mouth, causing Sean to shake his head. "No, she wants to walk so she's going to walk. Not only will it be good for her circulation, she agreed to lean against me for support."
Brandon opened his mouth to protest again but seeing the look on both Sean and Jennifer's faces, he shut it and nodded. "Okay, well the more the better so you have me to use too, Babe."
