(y/n)'s POV:

I woke to the soft clatter of pans and the faint scent of something sweet drifting through the air. The bed beside me was empty, but the lingering warmth on the sheets told me he hadn't been gone long. I stretched slowly, muscles tender from the night before, and a sleepy smile tugged at my lips. Everything about me ached in the best possible way.

The golden light of morning streamed through the gauzy curtains, casting a warm glow over the cozy bedroom that now belonged to both of us. Our wedding rings sat on the nightstand, still catching the sunlight as if they, too, were basking in the peace of this new beginning.

I pulled his shirt, still smelling faintly of spice and fire, over my head and padded barefoot through the hallway, drawn by the comforting sounds of home. My home. Our home.

Kyojuro was standing in the kitchen, humming softly to himself as he flipped something in a pan. His hair was tied loosely at the nape of his neck, and he was wearing nothing but gray sweatpants that hung low on his hips. He looked completely domestic, and yet still impossibly radiant, like he belonged in a painting hung above a hearth.

He turned just as I entered, and the smile that lit up his face when he saw me was enough to melt the air around us.

"Good morning, sweetheart." he said warmly, eyes softening as they took me in. "I was hoping you'd sleep a little longer. You need rest."

"I have all the rest I need." I said, stepping into his arms. "Right here."

He held me close for a moment, resting his chin lightly atop my head. I could hear the steady rhythm of his heart, strong and calm, just like him.

"I missed you." I murmured against his chest.

He chuckled softly. "I was only gone ten minutes."

"Too long." I replied with a pout.

He pulled back just enough to kiss my forehead, then the tip of my nose, before brushing his lips over mine in a kiss so tender it made my knees weak.

"I’d hold you forever." he said. "But I’m trying to make you breakfast, and you’re making it very hard to focus."

A small laugh escaped me. "Are you saying I’m a distraction?"

He gave me that boyish grin of his, the one that made his eyes crinkle and his heart shine through. "A very welcome one. But if I don’t get those pancakes on the plate soon, they’ll turn into charcoal, and I don’t want our first morning in our home as husband and wife to be remembered by me burning down the kitchen."

I gave him a teasing look, but let go of his waist, swiping a quick kiss from the corner of his mouth before stepping aside. "Alright, chef. I’ll sit and admire you from here. But I expect extra syrup for making me leave your arms."

He laughed again, deep, warm, and so full of love that I couldn’t help but smile as I perched myself on one of the kitchen stools, watching him move through our kitchen like he belonged there. Because he did. We both did.

The morning sun played on the wooden floor, and the scent of sweet batter and vanilla filled the air again. Everything felt light. Real. Ours.

He flipped a pancake with that same precise grace he used in everything, from wielding a sword to holding me like I was the most precious thing in his world. I couldn't help but admire him, the way he hummed quietly under his breath, completely at ease in our little bubble of morning warmth.
