Stella had shot Fred and Calli a very knowing look when they finally skated back towards the others.
Calli had pretended not to notice.
That became significantly harder later that evening when the three girls were back in their dormitory, hair still slightly damp from melted snow and coats discarded across the backs of chairs.
Calli was sitting on her bed untying her boots when Stella turned towards her with a grin.
"Okay."
Calli looked up.
"Okay what?"
"Spill, missy."
Calli blinked innocently.
"Spill what?"
Lucy, who had been brushing out her hair, slowly lowered the brush.
"Oh, don't even try that."
"I genuinely have no idea what either of you are talking about."
Stella folded her arms.
"You and Fred disappeared halfway across the lake."
"We were skating."
"You came back looking like that."
Calli frowned.
"Like what?"
"Soppier than usual." Lucy supplied.
Calli threw a glove at her.
Lucy caught it.
"Suspiciously happy."
"I'm allowed to be happy."
"Not without telling us why."
Calli looked between them.
Neither was going to let it go.
She sighed.
"Fine."
Both girls immediately leaned closer.
Calli suddenly became fascinated by the laces of her other boot.
"Fred might'veaskedmetomoveinwithhimafterHogwarts."
Silence.
Lucy blinked.
"What?"
Calli's cheeks warmed.
"He might have asked me to move in with him after Hogwarts."
Lucy squealed.
Calli flinched.
"Merlin, Lucy!"
"You can't just say that calmly!"
"I didn't! I said it as quickly as physically possible."
Stella's teasing expression disappeared, replaced by a genuine smile.
"Calli, that's amazing."
Calli smiled too.
Small.
A little uncertain.
"Yeah."
Lucy practically bounced onto the edge of Calli's bed.
"What did you say?"
Calli's smile faltered only slightly.
"I didn't exactly say yes."
Lucy's face fell.
"What?"
"I didn't say no either."
