The first weeks of September slipped quietly into a routine.
Classes.
Homework.
Quidditch.
Prefect patrols.
The occasional secret meeting in the abandoned seventh-floor bathroom.
True to her promise, Calli did everything in her power not to hex Dolores Umbridge every time the woman opened her mouth.
It was becoming increasingly difficult.
"I could mix it into her tea."
Fred didn't even look up from the cauldron he was stirring.
"What?"
Calli held up one of the newest Nosebleed Nougats.
"You know..."
She tossed it thoughtfully from one hand to the other.
"Accidentally."
George snorted.
"There is absolutely nothing accidental about the look on your face."
Calli sighed dramatically before dropping the sweet back into its box.
"I'd even use the perfected batch."
Fred chuckled.
"I admire the restraint."
"I have restraint."
"You've threatened to poison our Defence professor."
"I haven't done it."
"Yet."
She ignored him, reaching for another tray of sweets.
The bathroom had become even more cluttered over the years. Shelves were overflowing with jars of ingredients, spare cauldrons bubbled gently in corners, and Calli's neat stacks of parchment filled with calculations sat beside George's almost unreadable sketches.
At the centre of it all lay the newest batch of Skiving Snackboxes.
Finished.
Refined.
Finally safe.
Calli carefully separated the successful Nosebleed Nougats from the earlier faulty versions before tossing the rejects into a separate box.
Fred watched her.
"What are those for?"
"So you don't accidentally poison another Chaser."
"Fair."
She tied the box shut with unnecessary force.
"What if I mixed one into Umbridge's tea?"
Fred laughed.
"You'd get caught."
"I'd borrow Harry's cloak."
Fred blinked.
"You've thought about this."
"Maybe."
George looked between them.
"I'm almost impressed."
Fred crossed the room until he stood in front of her.
He gently took the sweet from her hand.
"Love."
"Hm?"
"The Defence Against the Dark Arts position is cursed."
She looked up.
"It is."
