The morning of the Hogsmeade visit was thankfully sunny, though the wind sweeping down from the mountains was strong enough to send robes, scarves and hair flying in every direction.
Calli had practically forced everyone out of the castle the moment breakfast ended.
Actually, before breakfast had properly ended.
"I wasn't finished with that." George complained as she dragged them towards the Entrance Hall.
"You had three plates."
"I was considering a fourth."
"You'll survive."
Fred had managed to grab two pieces of toast on the way out and was eating one as they walked, his other hand firmly tucked into Calli's.
Calli had a list.
That should have been everyone's first warning.
She needed fresh parchment, several bottles of ink, replacement quills, ingredients for the twins' products, a new pair of Quidditch gloves and a few other things she'd remembered throughout the week.
By the third shop, Fred had begun regretting encouraging her enthusiasm.
"Blimey, woman." He muttered as Calli inspected two bottles of ink as though the fate of the wizarding world depended on choosing correctly. "You're acting like there's going to be an ink and parchment shortage."
"You'll be grateful when you inevitably run out and come begging me for some."
"I don't beg."
Calli looked at him.
Fred reconsidered.
"I ask very charmingly."
"That's more accurate."
Their last stop was Zonko's, where George immediately disappeared between the shelves and Fred abandoned Calli entirely at the sight of a display labelled EXTREME CAUTION ADVISED.
"That's reassuring." Stella muttered.
They found Lee inside already carrying an armful of joke products.
"There you are!" George exclaimed. "A man with excellent priorities."
"Unlike some people." Lee replied, eyeing Calli's shopping bags. "What have you been buying?"
"Useful things."
"Books?"
"Some."
"Parchment?"
"Yes."
"Ink?"
"Obviously."
Lee looked at Fred sympathetically.
"She's beyond saving."
"I've accepted it."
Calli rolled her eyes and wandered after them.
Between the three boys, they accumulated an alarming amount of merchandise.
Dungbombs.
Hiccough Sweets.
Fanged Frisbees.
Several packets that Calli didn't even bother asking about.
Fred suddenly stopped.
"Oh."
That particular oh never meant anything good.
He reached onto a high shelf and picked up a strange metal object covered in small spikes, hinges and what appeared to be a spring-loaded mechanism.
