The next two weeks passed in a blur of parchment, defensive spells and Calli developing a very personal hatred for Lucy's homework.
She had made a promise.
Unfortunately, Calli hadn't properly considered the consequences of making that promise to a seventh-year N.E.W.T. student.
Her own workload was bad enough. Adding Lucy's on top of it meant most evenings found Calli surrounded by so much parchment that Fred had taken to announcing her disappearance beneath it.
"Has anyone seen my girlfriend?"
A hand would emerge from behind a stack of books.
"Go away."
"Tragic. Lost to academia."
And Calli never once went back on her word.
Every essay.
Every assignment Lucy slid across the table with an increasingly guilty smile was finished alongside Calli's own.
By the end of the first week, Lucy had stopped looking smug about the arrangement.
"Calli, you know I can do this one."
"No."
"It's six inches."
"I promised."
"You look like you haven't slept."
"I slept."
"When?"
Calli had stared at her.
Lucy had quietly taken the parchment back.
Calli had immediately snatched it out of her hands again.
"A deal is a deal."
Fred, witnessing the exchange, had shaken his head.
"Two frighteningly stubborn women."
Thankfully, the D.A. gave Calli something to look forward to.
Their next meeting was spent reinforcing what they'd already learned rather than introducing something new. Harry and Calli had agreed that there was little point racing through spells if half the room forgot them the moment they moved on.
So they paired everyone up again.
Stupefy.
Protego.
Attack.
Defend.
Switch.
Again.
And again.
By the end of the meeting, Shield Charms were appearing considerably faster than they had before. Stunning Spells were stronger. People who had once hesitated before every movement were beginning to react instinctively.
Neville even managed to block one of Harry's Stunners.
The look on his face afterwards had made Calli grin for the rest of the evening.
It was working.
They were getting better.
By the final week of November, the temperature had dropped sharply.
Which was precisely why, according to everyone except Calli, it was an excellent time for an evening excursion into the Forbidden Forest.
"This is a terrible idea." Stella muttered.
