By Sunday afternoon, they had finally finished the mountain of essays and homework that had accumulated throughout the week, which meant there was only one sensible thing left to do.
Experiment with sweets that apparently hated them.
The abandoned seventh-floor bathroom was warm from the cauldrons bubbling along the counters. Calli stood over the latest batch of Fever Fudge, rereading her notes with an increasingly displeased expression.
The fever worked perfectly.
Unfortunately, so did the side effects.
Large, painful, pus-filled boils had begun appearing in extremely inconvenient places.
George had discovered that first.
Fred, for reasons Calli still couldn't comprehend, had decided that his twin was exaggerating and tested the same batch himself.
He was regretting that decision now.
"Honestly, Fred." Calli sighed as he attempted to sit beside her.
He immediately winced and shot upright again.
Calli closed her eyes.
"Why would you try it too?"
"I thought George was making it up."
From across the bathroom, George looked deeply offended.
"Why would I make it up?"
Fred gestured towards him.
"Because you're you."
"We're identical!"
"Not spiritually."
Calli stared between them.
"You two are idiots."
"That's hurtful."
Stella, who had been quietly working at one of the sinks while the twins complained, finally turned around holding a small container.
"Use this."
George eyed it suspiciously.
"What is it?"
"Murtlap essence mixed into a soothing base. It should help with the inflammation."
George's face lit up.
"You're a godsend."
He kissed Stella quickly on the cheek, snatched the container from her hand and bolted towards one of the bathroom stalls.
Stella froze.
Lucy looked up from where she was sorting ingredients.
Calli slowly turned towards Stella.
Stella's cheeks had gone pink.
Before anyone could comment, the stall door slammed shut.
A few seconds passed.
Then came an extremely satisfied sigh.
"Ohhhh, that's better."
Stella's embarrassment disappeared immediately.
Her face twisted in horror.
"You are gross, George Weasley!"
"What?"
"I didn't mean put it on your bum while we're all still in the room!"
"I'm behind a door!"
"That doesn't make it better!"
