I sat at the table, with my family, having breakfast, completely relaxed, with a magazine open in my hands and my feet propped up comfortably. I flipped through the pages without a care in the world before Perry walked up to us, glancing around the room with a smug little grin, also holding her own magazine. "What's up, meat bots?"
The peaceful moment didn't last long. She sat up at another table, pulling her feet up with the magazine open. "Excuse me." Donald's voice came from behind me. She immediately jumped, startled by his sudden appearance, her magazine flying into the air, trying to act causal. I turned around to find him standing there with his arms crossed, staring at her with an unimpressed expression. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked, clearly annoyed. "This is the fourth time this week I've caught you blowing off your security rounds."
"What do you expect? This job is too hard for one person. How am I supposed to patrol the grounds, monitor cyber security, and still find time to steal from you?" Donald's expression hardened as he clearly wasn't amused by her excuse. "Look, you asked me for this job. If you can't handle it, maybe I should find somebody else."
"Yeah, like that guy from across the ocean." I replied, flashing him a sarcastic smile at the suggestion. Like who would be currently available on a tropical island? Donald immediately shot me a sharp glare, and I responded with an exaggerated scoff, acting as though I hadn't done anything wrong. Before either of us could continue, the large screen behind us suddenly flickered. "Hey, what's going on with the monitor?" Chase stood up, frowning as we all followed his lead. "Somebody probably hacked our signal because the sheriff wasn't doing her job." he commented sarcastically, pointing at her. She could only shrug helplessly as we walked over to the monitor, only to find Eddy staring back at us. "Hi!"
"AAH!" Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo all shouted at once, startled by Eddy suddenly appearing on the screen. "Oh, man. Where's Tasha when you need her?" I asked Leo, wanting her presence in his presence, but he completely ignored me, his attention fixed on Eddy. Eddy seemed amused by their reaction. "I've been trying to get in here for months. I had to go through all sorts of firewalls and security blocks. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you didn't want me here."
"We don't want you here!" Leo finally spoke up, his voice louder than before. Eddy immediately turned his attention toward him, a smug grin spreading across his face. "Well, look who finally got a big-boy voice. Still waiting for the rest of your little-boy body to catch up, huh?" Leo shook his head, clearly unimpressed by the comment. I could tell he was trying not to let Eddy get under his skin, so we gave him a few reassuring pats on the back. Donald stepped forward, trying to steer the conversation away from Eddy's teasing. "Eddy, you're supposed to be in Mission Creek with Tasha."
"Yeah, with Tasha. Unless she's here with you?" I asked, immediately perking up at the thought. I moved a little closer, a hopeful smile appearing on my face. Eddy noticed my reaction and seemed to enjoy it. "Don't worry, she's fine. I triple-locked her in the closet. Even her man-paws can't claw through that." My hopeful expression disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. I nodded solemnly, pretending to take the news seriously.
"That's too bad." Eddy then shifted his attention toward Bree, his bratty grin returning as he decided she would be his next target. "Speaking of man-paws, how are you, Bree?" Bree's expression immediately hardened. She looked toward him with growing irritation, clearly reaching the end of her patience, wanting a piece of him but I stopped her, grabbing her stomach.
"That's it. Where's the hammer?!"
"I don't know about the hammer, but I'm definitely looking at a room full of tools."
...
I was standing with Perry and Adam, who was busy trying to stretch a giant rubber band over his head. Don't ask why. I had already decided I didn't want to know. My dad approached Perry, motioning for her to come over. "Perry, can I talk to you for a second?"
