Kasamatsu paced around the waiting room, anxious and jittery while he waited for the doctor to come out those two white doors to bring him, hopefully, good news and success.
Three Months Ago
'I'm going to go under surgery in three months.' You signed. Kasamatsu had a look of surprise.
'You mean...for your hearing?' You nodded. Kasamatsu leaned in and hugged you, already excited for you to be able to hear his voice for the first time.
'But the doctor told me that it might fail. It's too difficult to explain, but she said that there's a huge risk of the surgery not being successful.' A look of worry flashed across his face.

Kasamatsu couldn't stop glancing at the door expectantly and questioning the worst possible outcomes.
What if doesn't go well?
What if it fails?
What if -
"Kasamatsu-san," Kasamatsu's inner worries were interrupted by your doctor's voice. He quickly strided over to her, hoping for good news. The neutral unsmiling look on her face worried him.
"H-How is she? Was it successful? Can she hear?..." Your doctor's face morphed into a smile.
"Yes. The surgery was successful. Follow me, I'll lead you to her," Kasamatsu tailed behind her as she led him to a room where you were sleeping calmly. Kasamatsu first noticed the bandage wrapped around your head to cover your ears.
"She won't wake up until tomorrow and she won't be able to leave until we've taken all necessary measures to make sure she's alright. If you want, you can go home and we'll call you the second she wakes up," she suggested.
"No, I'd like to stay with her for tonight please. I want to be the first person she sees and hears,"
The Following Morning
You fluttered your eyelids open as you realized you were in a hospital bed. You felt a warm weight on your hand and looked down to see that it was indeed your boyfriend sleeping as he held your hand gently. You smiled and snaked your hand away from his to feel the bandage covering your ears. Hearing a small groan, Kasamatsu woke up and signed
'Good morning. Hold on, I'll get the doctor,' you nodded as he left to get your doctor.
A Couple Hours Later
"Thank you for being patient Kasamatsu-san. We have performed all tests and checkups for now. So now, I'll finally unbandage her ears. Are you ready?" Kasamatsu immediately nodded and stared at you intently full of hope.
Your doctor started undoing the bandages slowly as you just looked at Kasamatsu. At last, all of the white bandage was gone. Everything was a little ringy , but it was your boyfriend who broke the lasting ring.
"[F/N]?...can you hear me?..." He signed and said at the same time. He started getting worried when you didn't answer, but then you soon started crying. Crying at the fact that for the first time ever, you could hear. For the first time ever, you could hear the voice of the love of your life. Though you couldn't verbally say anything yet, you were happy. Just being able to hear your happy crying and the whispers of Kasamatsu, you were filled with indescribable joy.
One Year Later
One full year has passed since your surgery. Although learning how to speak Japanese was hard, you kept on trying. You and Kasamatsu are both now in college, and of course, you still took special classes to help support you.
The school day was coming to an end and you and Kasamatsu were walking home. Ever since you could hear, you had a Japanese textbook with you at all times, trying to learn as much as you can. Kasamatsu didn't mind at all and always helped you. You stopped on the pathway for a bit and Kasamatsu stopped a couple steps in front of you before realizing you stopped.
"[F/N]? Is something wrong?" He signed and said.
"Y-Yu...ki...o..." You started softly. Even though it was spaced and a bit broken, he loved the way you said his name.
"Yes?" You glanced down at the book in your arms for a bit then looked back up at him.
"....I...love...you..." You said in broken Japanese. Kasamatsu still understood you. He stood there, shocked, heart stopping then beating quickly again and face reddening. His throat was blocked and he couldn't say it, but oh boy, did he feel it. He loved you too and when you just smiled wider at him, he loved you even more.
