Never Meant To Be [Kagami Taiga x Reader]

You sat in the chair at your first love's wedding, getting married to a girl he was arranged to marry.

Kagami Taiga's heart belonged to the one he was about to wed for life. It was arranged, but he loved her. However she only consumed part of his heart.

You consumed another part of him. He loved you as well, but you were too afraid of rejection. You couldn't take those words and process it, coming from someone you love. You couldn't handle the unbearable pain that came with it. Kagami feared the same.

You never knew that he loved you.

And he never knew you loved him.

You tried to hold back your tears as you heard the priest talking to the couple.

"...do you take Kagami Taiga to be your lawfully wedded husband." The priest asked the girl which then smiled at her fiancé and said I do.

"...do you take [random girl name] to be your lawfully wedded wife." He turned his head to Kagami.

Then, with just two short words, three letters, permanently shattered your heart.

"I do."

.

"You may now kiss the bride." You heard the priest say, then you clenched your eyes closed, holding your hands tightly together, not wanting to get further hurt than you already were.

The ceremony ended happily for them. But you were on the verge of bursting into tears, but you refrained yourself from showing how you really feel.

You decided to skip the reception. You just couldn't handle it anymore. Giving up the one you love by force. When everyone left, you sat down at the steps, not caring that it was getting dark. Then you felt a presence sit next to you and you saw that it was your best friend, who was one of the few people who knew you loved Kagami.

"I'm sorry." She said.

"It's fine. He's happy right?" You replied quietly.

"You don't seem fine." She said as you couldn't hold it back anymore and you began to sob, not even trying to hold back anymore. She began to comfort you.

At the reception, Kagami was happy, but he was troubled and slightly upset. So he old his wife that he was heading outside for a while with Kuroko to get some fresh air.

"Aren't you happy now Kagami-kun?" Kuroko asked him.

"I...honestly don't know."

"How? You're happily married now."

"I would truly be happy if it had been her instead."

"Then why wasn't it her?"

"Because I had no choice." Kuroko didn't reply.

"[F/N] was my first love and it hurt for me Kuroko. To just let her go like this. I'm such an idiot."

Then at the same time without knowing it, even though at different locations, you both said

"I never wanted it to end like this. I never wanted it to lead to this. It's obvious, and I didn't want to say it, but we were never meant to be together."
