'In this society, everyone is set with their soulmate by words. Every person is born with a sentence on their body, speaking their deepest desires that match with their soulmates. Nobody is able to see what those words are, except your soulmate.'
---
For all your life, you've always been neglected. Friends, family... You've always been alone. You felt vulnerable, weak, lonely,
...unimportant.
You never really knew what to do except deal with the harsh blows they landed on you. You could never tell anyone your problems because they didn't bother to care nor comfort. Two things you needed.
What did I do?
Why is it always me?
Is there something wrong?
Why do they hate me?
You've always pondered upon many questions that were never answered. You always felt so alone, so that's why you have resorted to reading books. It was something you have never regretted, because it was the only thing that would give you a small ray of happiness was reading and getting yourself lost in the story.
---
Mayuzumi Chihiro shared the same problem. He was only used if he was useful, then thrown away once deemed no longer important. He hated that. He hated being used, he hated not being seen, and he hated that empty feeling of loneliness that nested within him.
Books and reading were also his escape. Mayuzumi was almost never seen without a book, if people bothered to actually see him.
'Chihiro, when you grow up, you'll meet the one that will love you no matter what, someone that will see you, and someone that will fulfill the greatest desire in your heart,' his mother would say. He only scoffed at the idea. So what if he was assigned a soulmate? And greatest desire? Sure.
The roof of Rakuzan and a book were his safe places. The roof often shared the same empty and barren feeling and atmosphere he locked away. That lasted all throughout high school and continued it once he entered college. Being alone wasn't bad, at least to him, but he hated the feeling of being used, a tool, unimportant.
---
The two of you shared the same life bonding words of desire.
'Love? No one loves me,' you both thought.
That was the opinion you both were set on believing.
Until you met each other one spring day in college.
It was one day still freshly imprinted on your minds.
---
You firmly held the book in your hands as you were walking to class while reading the new book you had gotten. You tried to multitask, but it failed once you bumped hard into someone, causing them to stumble a bit.
"I-I'm sorry! Are you okay?" you panicked as you helped up the stranger. He regained his balance ad turned to face you.
"Yes. Are you okay?" the silver haired male said half heartedly.
"Yes, thank yo-" you both were cut off when you both noticed bold words on the side of your neck.
'Is this real?
Is it true?
Are they my...'
"...Soulmate?" you both muttered unconsciously. You both read the simple sentence that was written on each others neck.
'Make me feel important'
"I-I'm [L/N] [F/N]..." you introduced, holding out your hand timidly, still inspecting the words on his neck.
"Mayuzumi Chihiro," he responded then shook your hand, a bit hesitant in his actions. You jumped a bit when you felt the strange comforting warmth emitting from his hand.
.
.
.
"I'll make you feel important. I'll make you feel loved," you both silently promised to each other.
Days turned into weeks and weeks into months, and you were becoming more attracted to each other, and before you knew it, you were both becoming happy with each other (despite Mayuzumi's blank faces), starting to feel emotions you both never knew that you were ever going to be able to feel. And you both liked it.
Being loved.
Being listened to.
Being cared for.
Being important.
'Maybe having a soulmate isn't so bad after all,'
