"Do you want anything?" I heard Shawn ask someone. I looked at him and saw his bright smile. "Okay babe. See ya in a few." My eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Are you leaving?" I asked stepping down the ladder. "Oh, yeah I have to go." He said putting on his jacket. I nodded, "Ashley?" I asked. He smiled and said, "Yeah, I think you two would get along. She-." I cut Shawn off. "Shawn you better get going the snow is really coming down." Shawn said bye and left. I turned back to the half decorated living room. 2017 posters were everywhere, balloons were scattered all over the floor, and confetti was strewn everywhere.
After hours of almost falling off the ladder, or breaking something I finally accomplished the New Year decor for the party. It was in about 1 hour, and Shawn is supposed to be here in 15 minutes. I dialed his number and waited for him to answer. "Hey it's Shawn, leave your name and number and I'll call you as soon as possible." I let out a frustrated groan and hung up. The doorbell rang, I opened the door in hopes it was Shawn.
Oh it was Shawn alright, but with someone I didn't invite. "Y/N this is Ashley, Ashley this is Y/N." Shawn introduced. I smiled a fake smile and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you, Shawn always talks about you." I said. She smiled and said, "Nice to meet you too." "There's drinks, and snacks in the kitchen. Just make yourselves at home." I said closing the door as they walked into the kitchen. Not too long after they arrived people stared to come. "Where's Shawn?" Ian asked. I sighed and said, "In the kitchen with Ashley." Ian knew I didn't like Ashley too much. "I didn't know she was invited." Ian said walking beside me. "Me neither." I rolled my eyes as I poured myself a drink in a red solo cup. "Look on the bright side, this party is awesome. Even if Shawn is with his girlfriend you still got me to hang out with." Ian said putting his arms out like he was showing himself off. I smiled and said, "That is true, do you want to go out to the pool?" He nodded his head as he sipped his drink and followed me to the pool.
Ian and I talked for hours about the stupidest things. "Hey, what time is it?" Ian asked. "Uh," I pulled my phone out of my pocket and turned it on. "11:57." I said. "Wow it's almost 2017." He said in shock. "I know, it seems like yesterday we were sitting out here with Shawn playing spin the bottle." Ian and I laughed. "Good times." He said. "I'm going to go get another drink. You want one?" He offered. "Yes, please." I said. He nodded and walked back into the house. I laid down in the foldable chair and checked my phone.
"Here ya go." Ian said handing me the cup. "Thanks." I said. He sat down beside me and looked at the people that were socializing. "It's seems like yesterday we were all in middle school and I pushed you into Shawn." Ian said shaking his hand. "Yeah, I just want to say thank you for making that my most embarrassing moment of middle school." I said sarcastically. Ian laughed, "come on it wasn't that bad." I scoffed. "Shawn and I both fell into a trash can in front of the whole school." I reminded. "Hey, if it wasn't for me you guys would of never met." Ian defended. I shrugged, "I guess your right."
"10, 9, 8!" I heard people chant. Ian and I walked into the house to watch the ball drop. "7, 6,5!" Ian looked at me confused, "Where's Shawn?" He asked looking over the crowd. I saw him in the corner with an angry expression. I tapped Ian on the shoulder. "Found him." I said pointing my finger in Shawn's direction. Ian looked at me with confusion. We both walked over to him. "Shawn what's wrong?" I asked. "Ashley kissed Brian." He said shaking his head. Ian looked at me with wide eyes. "Forget about here Shawn, it's almost the new year. You shouldn't start it off like this." I said. "4,3,2!" Ian disappeared. "I'm kind of glad she did it though." I looked at Shawn confused. "What, why?" I questioned. "So I could do this." Shawn placed his hand on my lower back and pushed me close to his chest. His soft lips crashed onto mine. The faint sound of fireworks, bottles popping open, and cheering was the only thing I could hear. Shawn pulled away for air. "That's a good way to start off the new year." I said. Shawn smiled and kissed me again.
