Nervous

I smoothed the red dress out. I looked in the mirror and smiled. Tonight is the night that my boyfriend, Shawn, will be meeting my parents. I know he is nervous, but he shouldn't be. My parents will love him. The sound of the doorbell echoed throughout the house. I put on my heels quickly and walked downstairs. My dad was talking to Shawn so I decided the eavesdrop.

"So your the boy that my daughter is crazy about." My dad said looking Shawn up and down. I saw a blush cold across Shawn's cheeks.

"Yes sir." Shawn said.

"Louise," I turned around and saw my mom standing behind me. "Will you help me with my earrings?" She asked. I took the diamond earrings from her hand and put them in for her.

"I think they're ready." I heard my dad say. I took a deep breath and walked out from behind the wall. Shawn looked at me with relief. I smiled. My dad put his arm around my mom and said, "This is Manuel's boy." My mom showed her perfect smile and hugged Shawn. "I've heard great things about you."

We decided to take two separate cars to the restaurant. I rode with Shawn and mom and dad rode in their car. "Shawn don't be nervous." I said taking his hand in mine. He looked at me with worry in his eyes. "They'll love you." I assured. He took a deep breath as he back out of the driveway.

The smell of food lingered throughout the restaurant. "Table for 4." My dad said to the waiter with blond hair and blue eyes. He led us to a table covered with a white cloth, 4 menus. Shawn pulled my chair out for me and sat down beside me. My dad sat in front of Shawn, and my mom sat in front of me.  "What can I get you guys to drink?" The waiter asked. We all ordered our drinks and continued conversation.

As we ate our food my dad asked a question that caught me off guard.

"Do you love my daughter?" My eyes shot up along with Shawn's. Shawn swallowed his food and answered, "I am so in love with you daughter. Louise is the sweetest and most beautiful woman I've ever met. I don't know what I would do without her." I could feel my cheeks heat up. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. Shawn looked at me and smiled. He grabbed my hand and looked back at my dad. He studied Shawn for a while until he said, "I like you Shawn, don't ruin that."
