"Here he comes," I turned away and looked at my best friend. "Do I look okay?" I asked him while I tried to fix my hair. He glanced at me and nodded his head. "You look great." His voice was faint and cracked. "Shawn what's wrong?" I asked becoming concerned. "Nothing." He shrugged and put his stuff in his locker. "I have to go, good luck." He said before walking away. I watched him disappear, and wondered what was wrong with him. I shook it off and turned back to Ryan. His eyes met mine, and he smiled. He said something to one of his friends and then walked over to me. "Hey, I'm Ryan." He said flashing me a smile and leaning up against Shawn's locker. "I'm Y/N." I said nervously. "I was wondering if you'd like to go out sometime, like maybe this Friday." He said looking me up and down. I smiled, and said, "I would love to." He smiled and reached for something in his pocket. He handed me a piece of notebook paper that had been torn. His number was written in black ink. "Text me later." He winked and walked off. I smiled and put the paper in my purse. My smile faded when I thought about Shawn. I wanted to find out what was wrong with him.

..

"Hey, it's Shawn I'll call you back as soon as possible." I sighed and hung up. Since he won't answer his phone, I'll just go visit him. I grabbed my car keys and walked down to the front door. I reached for the doorknob, but jumped when I heard my mom's voice, "Where are you going?" I turned around and looked up at her. She was at the top of the stairs wearing a pink tanktop that was covered by a black house coat. "I left my bookbag at Shawn's, and I need it for a project." I lied. There was a short silence. "Alright, just be home before 9:30." She said before walking back to her bedroom. I let out a breath of relief and looked at the clock. I had about a hour before I had to be back home, and that was plenty of time. I opened the door and ran out to my car. I backed out of the driveway and sped to Shawn's house.

..

I knocked on the wooden door, and waited for someone to answer. I heard muffled voices before Aaliyah answered the door. "Hey, is Shawn here?" I asked her. "Yeah, he's up in his room. He has been like that for almost 2 weeks now. I don't know what's up, but I hope he is okay." Aaliyah said opening the door for me to come in. "Are you guys by yourself right now?" I asked noticing the quiet house. "Yeah, Mom and dad are out of town this week. Shawn didn't tell you?" She asked shocked. "No, but our conversations have been really short this week." I said before walking up to Shawn's room. "That's how its been with me to." Aaliyah said walking behind me. "I hope you can figure out whats up with him. You are the only one he really trusts anymore." Aaliyah whispered and then walked to her room leaving me in front of Shawn's door. I took a deep breath and knocked on his door. "Shawn, it's me." I said. He opened the door wearing gray sweatpants, and a black t-shirt. I looked up at his eyes and realized they were red, and puffy. His cheeks were splotchy, and his hair was messy. "Why are you here?" He asked avoiding eye contact with me. "I came to check on you. I didn't see you after this morning, and you didn't answer my calls. I was worried." I explained. "Well I'm fine." He said about to close the door. I stopped it, and asked, "What has been going on with you lately?" I asked. He turned around and looked at me. He looked sad and angry. "I think you should go." He said softly. "I'm not leaving." I said crossing my arms. "Just go, It will make it a lot easier for me." He said putting his hand on the door. "Make what easier?" I asked confused. He let out a deep, and shaky sigh. "To get over you. It would make it easier for me to get over you if you just left. I can't take it anymore, seeing you look at Ryan the way I look at you hurts, I know that he is going to break your heart and I, your friend, will be here picking up the pieces. That's all I am to you, a friend. You, oh you mean the world to me. Just please make this easy for me, and leave." Tears fell down my cheeks as I processed what he just told me. "Shawn," I said lifting his head to look at me. I was speechless, I didn't know what to say, so I placed my lips on his. I don't know why, but it felt right. He was surprised at first, but kissed back. "Did you just do that because you felt bad for me, or did you mean it?" He asked backing away from me. "I meant it Shawn." I said getting closer to him.
