Roger's POV
Monday, September 10, 1973.
It's six in the morning and I get up quickly. I do my oral hygiene and have a quick coffee. I take leave of Les, who will go to his work. I enter my Mini Cooper and head towards the Royal Holloway campus, University of London to start the Masters in Molecular Biology. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays in the morning.
During the month of August, Freddie, Bri, Deacy and I recorded Queen's second album. Now we have to choose a name for the album, besides the photos on the cover and back cover of the album, to take photos to promote the second album. I'm doing everything to get closer to Mandy, but, it's difficult. I turn on the radio and think of everything that is happening recently. What do I have to do to really show Mandy that I want her friendship? Holy shit, I can not take it anymore.
On the last day, Wednesday, Freddie turned twenty-seven, and we all celebrated on Saturday, the eighth, at the Kensington Tavern. Mandy took her friend Mike. I do not like that guy, to me he's not trustworthy. I stayed with two blondes on the night and led to the motel, only to same sex. I'm not prepared to love anyone for real. There are things in my heart that are still deeply marked. The truth is, I do not trust love. What matters to me is friendship, and I'll do my best to win Mandy's friendship.
Trident hired an adman named Tony Brainsby to propel the band to make photo shoots for magazines aimed at young audiences. We have lots of teen and young fans and even ladies, housewives are Queen fans. My mother Winifred advertises the band in Truro and has won a lot of followers.
Even my sister Clare and my friends from Truro, Pat and Sue Johnson founded the band's official fan club as it is rapidly expanding and we have received hundreds of correspondence through EMI and it has become overwhelming for the music business to handle all of this .
Queen on Saturday will give a presentation at Imperial College and soon we'll be on a little tour.
Amanda's POV
Thursday, thirteenth of September. I leave the NME stage and go to dinner with my father at his house. One of his drivers was waiting for me in front of the magazine building in a New Beetle. I got in the car so no one would watch me and we went to my father's mansion. My college classes have returned and I have only three months of college to finally graduate in Journalism. Next year begins the Masters in Music Journalism. Arriving at my father's mansion, he was with Lilian and Emily and I frowned. I just greeted him and completely ignored Lilian and Emily.
Lilian and Emily talked about their daily chores and my dad also talked about EMI Music. She said that Queen is receiving many fan letters, but that the band already has a fan club.
"You know that, daughter?" My father asked.
"Yes. Clare, Roger's sister, and Pat and Sue Johnson, friends of Roger de Truro, are taking over the fan club," he said, eating dinner.
"You should join the fan club too, my daughter," my father said.
Roger Taylor is very handsome and sweet. I still wanted to meet him and maybe do some photographic rehearsal with him. "Emily smiled." What do you think of Roger, my dear sister? "
She asked wryly and I remained in irritated silence.
"One day you're still going to do a photo shoot with Queen, Emily," said Lilian, smiling.
I could not take it all anymore, but I sat in silence. I talked to my father about my work as a trainee in NME magazine, about my final studies in college, my Spanish course. When I was leaving, my father accompanied me to the exit and asked Emilio, one of his drivers to take me home. Before I left, I talked quickly with my father, Olivia, my boss, and what happened. My dad gasped.
"Daughter, this is very serious. You have to do something about it. What you're telling me is very serious. I already said, assume everyone that you are my daughter and get you a job at EMI as a journalist. It's better, Mandy, please stop working in NME magazine, "my father pleaded.
"I can not, Daddy," she said firmly. "I want to be known for my own efforts, not because I'm the daughter of a great director of EMI Music.
"Daughter, forget it, you're risking too much, you can have unpleasant consequences and then it's too late. My father said thoughtfully.
"I'll take whatever consequences come," she said to my convicted father. "I'm a determined woman and I'll do it, I'll go to the end. One hour, Olivia will be unmasked by me. She will not always stand up, humiliating others, thinking that everyone does what she wants when she wants.
"Daughter, I beg you, be very careful with her," my father said, hugging me tightly.
"I'll be careful, Daddy, do not worry," he said, smiling at him and saying goodbye.
On the way home, I was thinking about everything that was happening in NME magazine. The articles that speak badly of Queen, which has left the boys very upset, Olivia. What should I do? Neither Cíntia knows everything that happens, I did not have the courage to comment with my best friend.
To be continued.
