"Ano na, Daddy? Wala pa rin ba?" Zanny asked me with a face full of worry.
I gritted my teeth and suddenly had the urge to slam my phone to the wall. "Tangina, wala talaga. Nakapatay pa rin yung phone niya."
Napaupo na siya sa sofa habang sunud-sunod na tumutulo yung mga luha niya habang hinahagod yung dibdib niya.
Jeremy went and sit with her and tried to console his mom by caressing her back. "Dad, it's been two days already. Hindi naman po ugali ni Katie na magpatay ng phone niya," he said, equally worried.
I clenched my fists in worry. Hindi rin ugali ni Katie na hindi tumawag sa amin or makipag-video call araw-araw. Even if she was too busy with her studies, nagsisingit pa rin siya ng oras para kamustahin kaming lahat dito at para ipaalam sa amin na ayos lang siya for us not to get worried about her. Palagi siyang nagku-kwento sa mga nangyayari sa kanya at sa mga pinag-aaralan at pinupuntahan niya. She said that was her way of relieving herself from her longing for us.
Tangina, sinasabi ko na nga ba! Allowing her to study there was really a very bad decision. Iyon ngang araw-araw siyang tumatawag sa amin ay hindi pa rin napapalagay nang husto yung loob namin ng mommy niya, ngayon pa kaya na hindi namin siya ma-contact.
I heard my phone rang and immediately took the call when Gomer's name appeared on the screen.
"Gomer?"
"Dude! We need to act quickly! Nawawala si Katie! Your daughter had been kidnapped in front of my house!"
"WHAT?!!! NOOOO!!!" I shouted angrily while my whole body was shaking frightfully.
"Daddy, bakit?" Zanny asked me as she shot up from her seat and walked fast towards me. "What happened to our daughter?"
I listened to what Gomer was saying on the other end of the line. He told me about what happened to Katie before she got kidnapped.
"Nakikipag-coordinate na 'ko sa mga authorities dun. Sabi nila tatawag daw agad sila sa akin pag may lead na sila."
"Oo, sige. Salamat. Call me right away pag may update na." I ended the call and pulled my hair with my fingers frustratedly as tears started to blur my sight. "Not again. Dāmn. Please, not my Katie please."
