The car stopped outside the Midfield mansion. Daven just stared. He'd be living here? This place was where Jesse had grown up. He climbed out of the car and looked around. The mansion was surrounded by a forest, and a high wall separated the snow-covered lawn from the trees. Even in winter, they had spent a little too much time tending to the outside.

"Daven," called Jesse. "Come on, grab your bags. It's freezing out here."

The dominant picked up his duffle bag and closed the trunk. "This is where you grew up then?"

Jesse nodded. "Yeah, we'll live here when you become alpha."

"Where does the rest of the pack live?" He held open the door for his fiance to enter.

"Well, Midfield is our pack. Majority of people live within the city. The higher ranks have houses around here."

"Wow."

They stepped inside, and Daven closed the door.

"Jesse!" A golden wolf raced down the stairs. "You're home!" She tackled her cousin, nearly knocking him to the ground. "What took you so long?"

"I had to finish up some stuff at school." He fixed the strap on his shoulder.

Daven scoffed at the comment. Jesse had more than "some stuff" to finished. The sub had fallen way behind.

"Where's everyone at?"

"In the playroom. We're putting up the tree."

"You were going to do with it out me." Jesse dropped his things and raced with Brook up the stairs.

Daven was having a hard time comprehending everything. He stood there and just stared. Where the hell was he? He moved Jesse's things to the side and put his bag next to them. Unbuttoning his coat, he sucked in his lips. This would be his someday. He knew Midfield was wealthy and different than Northern Ridge, but this was something else. The idea that the entire city of Midfield were pack members was hard to wrap his head around. Northern Ridge was big, but not nearly that big.

Dropping his coat on the pile, he wandered to the stairs. He stopped on the middle platform and looked at the different pictures. Trevor was directly in the middle and larger than the ones around it. Daven stepped back and took in all the different faces. This pack was old. Northern Ridge had a deep history, but nothing compared to this. He went up the stairs and found pencil drawings. He lifted his hand to touch the frame.

"That's when we were traditional."

Dropping his hand. Daven flinched at the voice and looked to the other set of stairs. Trevor was standing at the top.

"You were traditional?" Daven walked toward him.

The alpha nodded. "A long time ago. The old alphas knew we couldn't stay as we were and still survive. These are from when the pack was based in Europe." He tapped his finger on the last one. "We don't know much about the leaders of that time. We weren't as good at keeping records back then," he chuckled and looked down the line of photos.

"Midfield was a small pack. We know that much. Our territory had been taken over by other packs, and humans were expanding, so we had no choice but to leave. When my ancestors got here, we were surprised to find other werewolves. The alpha met a woman who was in search of a leader. Their alpha had been killed, and their territory taken from them. So the two combined packs, and they traveled west." He pointed to a woman with long black hair and feather tied in it. She also wore a necklace with werewolf claws threaded onto a leather strip. "This was their daughter. The first alpha after the packs combined. From the stories, she was a terrifying woman," he laughed. "She was such a vicious fighter that the surrounding packs wouldn't dare even come close to the territory border." He pointed to her necklace. "Those are not from the same werewolf in case you were wondering."
