Liam sat down with Cyrus's family on the bench at the bottom of the sub-section. It was a little weird to be back at Midfield Academy. He glanced at a group of students and saw them whispering while looking the sub's way. Liam zipped up his jacket.

His fiance was warming up with the rest of the basketball team. The brown-haired boy was so tall compared to the others. Liam was used to everyone being taller than him, so he had never noticed before.

"Hi, Cyrus!" River waved.

If he had been in werewolf form, Liam was sure the older man's tail would be going crazy. Brook left them to go and join her friends.

"How is it being back?" asked Troy.

Liam shrugged. "Weird. I never thought I would be back," he laughed nervously.

The buzzer sounded and the players went to their benches.

River sat up straight and grinned as his son when to the center circle to do the tip-off. "Go, Cyrus!"

Troy put his arm around his mate. "Don't embarrass him too much."

The sub frowned. "Am I being too loud?"

"No, he's usually a little nervous at the start of a game."

The official blew his whistle and tossed the ball in the air. Cyrus tipped it to one of his teammates and the game began. It was too bad that this game was in human. It was funner to watch when the players were in their werewolf form. Liam tried not to smile as he watched his fiance. The sub had to admit Cyrus still looked cool out on the court even as a human.

Liam stood on the bleachers as River and Troy went to congratulate their son on the win.

River hugged his son around the waist. "I'm so proud of you."

"You did great tonight." Troy clasped Cyrus's shoulder.

The basketball coach walked over to the group and started talking to Troy. With all the noise going on in the gym, it was hard to hear what they were talking about. Liam wandered down the steps and sat down on the bottom row. Cyrus had improved over the years. The sub smiled to himself when he recalled how the dominant used to be this tall, gangly thing that looked so awkward running down the court.

"You should think about it," said the coach before going to talk to the referee.

Cyrus spotted Liam and grinned.

Standing, Liam wandered over. "Good work. You did great." He gave the werewolf a side hug.

The dominant was grinning like a fool as he clasped Liam's hand. People were watching them and it made Liam feel a little self-conscious. They probably all thought that the golden-haired boy wasn't good enough for the young man who was in the running to be the next beta. Cyrus moved his arm so it was around Liam's shoulders. It felt good. For once, Liam wasn't being seen as an embarrassment. The sub glanced at the older couple. Cyrus and Toy were talking about the game but the two dominants both had their arms around their lovers. Letting out a sigh, Liam pressed into the boy beside him.

This was what he wanted.

All his life Liam had just wanted to know what it was like to be loved by someone. It was the reason he had went to all those interviews even though he knew it was going to end in rejection. The sub had clung to that small hope that one day he might get a yes.

"Ready to go?" asked Troy.

"Are you coming with us?" Liam asked, looking up at Cyrus.

The brown-haired boy swallowed hard. Liam tried not to smile. If Cyrus had been in werewolf form, Liam had a feeling the dominant's tail would be going crazy. The boy took after his dad.
