Cyrus just wanted to run away and hid. Daven and Jesse were sitting across from him and the alpha. They weren't saying anything, but he could feel the tension between them. Jesse has his eyes fixed on his cousin with his arms folded.

Cyrus swallowed hard. "I am so, so sorry." He gripped his knees. "I didn't mean for it to go that far." The young dominant clenched his jaw.

Trevor squeezed the back of his nephew's neck. "There's something we need to explain."

"He goes fucking bazerk," stated Jesse. "Whenever he feels the least bit threaten, he goes insane." The sub motioned to Cyrus.

"Jesse." Trevor fixed his son with a stern look. "That's enough."

"He hurt my mate," muttered the sub.

"Who was attacking his uncle and alpha, to put things in Cyrus's perspective."

Jesse bowed his head.

Daven reached over and clasped his fiance's hand. "A lot has happened over the last couple of days. We've all done things we regret." He turned to his boyfriend. "All of us."

"Yeah, I guess," breathed Jesse. "I'm not mad at you, Cyrus, or you." He glanced at his father. "What I did was wrong, and I know it was an accident. You'd never hurt me on purpose."

The alpha nodded. "There's a reason I let Daven take a swing at me. All it took was that one second of forgetting to keep my temper in check and the claws came out." He patted his nephew's shoulder. "It runs in the family."

Daven looked between the three. "I'm noticing. So what exactly happened to make you lose it?"

Cyrus let out a deep breath. "Selective breeding had some side effects." He sat back and slipped lower into the couch. "We're really sensitive to threats. That's why Jesse throws up. He feels threatened when really powerful werewolves get near him. His body just reacts by throwing up. It just can't handle being in that person's presence. I'm kind of the opposite." Cyrus forced down the lump in his throat. "When someone threatens me or my family"—he glanced at his uncle and cousin—"I lash out. My mind goes blank and I start acting on instinct only. So when I saw you hitting Trevor, my alpha and pretty much my third father, I lost it. It didn't help that you used your claws when you hit me. I could tell you were a strong werewolf and I had to do something." He peeked up at Daven. "I'm honestly really, really sorry."

Letting out a sigh, Daven put his arm around Jesse's shoulders. "I brought it on myself, but I have to say, you are scary as hell when you lose it." He started to laugh.

Cyrus sucked in his lips to stop from smiling.

"Be glad you weren't around when he went through puberty," said Trevor, shaking his head. "He lashed out at everything."

The young dominant frowned at his uncle. "Can you not tell him about that?"

"Daven's family." Trevor messed up his nephew's hair. "That's one perk to Cyrus's temper."

"If I need someone to ever protect Jesse, I know Cyrus is the one for the job," chuckled Daven. "Because honestly, my skin was burning all night long."

"Mine was hurting, too, if that makes you feel better," Cyrus replied.

"A little bit. I was starting to think Trevor made up this whole we don't have an alpha story."
