Cyrus sat across from his uncle. "I really want to do this."
"I know," muttered Trevor. "You already accepted the offer without telling me."
The young dominant swallowed hard. The one perk to human universities was they didn't require alpha permission to attend. "I think it would be good for both of us."
"Liam?"
Cyrus nodded. "He wants to know what it's like to not having to constantly worry about rank."
"That's not possible." Trevor shook his head. "Not in our world, Cyrus. You know that. You're in the running to be the next beta and that also means Liam will have to get used to the idea of being the mate to the beta of Midfield." Trevor pressed his finger into the desk. "It's a responsibility you both will have to take on."
Letting out a deep breath, Cyrus nodded. "All I'm asking is a few years where Liam can experience life without being judged by his fur color. We're not going to run off and try to be human."
"Is this only for Liam's benefit?"
"No." Cyrus gripped his armrest. "I understand that I could be the next beta and that's a lot of pressure. Put that on top of going to college full time, I just want a bit of separation. That's all."
"It doesn't help your case that the University is clear across the country." Trevor eyed his nephew. "Couldn't you have chosen one closer to home? I'm fine with you going to a human school but I would have preferred one closer where I can keep an eye on you. River is already uptight about the idea of you being so far. He's worried about Liam as well. This school is in another pack's territory."
"They have the top-ranked business economic program in the country. As the next beta, I figure being able to manage a pack would be a positive."
Trevor sighed and ran his hand down his face. "You knew I can't argue with that."
Cyrus smiled. "My father is okay with letting me go and he said that's what he told grandpa to let him go."
"My brother has always been strange. I'll never understand the appeal of being surrounded by humans." The alpha propped his elbow on the table and rested his head in his palm. "Midfield University has humans in it."
"Like twenty percent," scoffed Cyrus. "If that."
"Humans are humans." Trevor shrugged. "You seemed to already have your mind made up."
"I'd rather leave with your permission then pull another stunt. I'm tired of doing community services."
Trevor chuckled. "You've tested me this year." Sitting back, he drummed his fingers on his desk. "Liam is your responsibility."
"I know." Cyrus sat up straight.
"There will be other werewolves around. It's up to you to protect him. He's still a sub."
"That is one area you do not need to worry about."
"Watch your temper."
"I will. I promise."
Trevor took in a deep breath. "Alright. You can go, though, if it's too hard, you can always transfer to Midfield University."
Cyrus grinned. "It'll be fine, you'll see. I'll work hard and I'm going to study with Liam so he can go next year with me."
The alpha smiled slightly. "You better. My son-in-law is constantly testing me with when it comes to work ethic. I better not find out my nephew is slacking off, as well."
"I won't. I promise. Thank you." Cyrus needed to go tell Liam the good news. He stood. "Thank you so much."
"Oh, Cyrus." Trevor reached into the drawer in his desk. "This is for you."
