Coming home from being drafted for over two years, Scott stumbled apon a stray Omega alone on the streets. He brought the Omega to his home and everything changed then.
Scott glanced over at his phone and read the date on the screen. February11th. He felt his skin crawl at the thought of not having a present ready for Mitch for Valentine's Day. He saw Mitch sprawled out on the opposite end of the couch, his back sweaty and small puffs of breath escaping his lips.
"Mittens? How are you feeling?" Scott got on his knees in front of Mitch and brushed his hair back with his hand to feel his forehead. Mitch whimpered at the feeling and closed his eyes.
"N-not good.. A-Alpha. T-tissue!" Scott quickly grabbed a tissue from the box behind him and Mitch grabbed it just as he sneezed.
"Oh honey... Is the medicine not working?" Scott rubbed Mitch cheeks soothingly. "I'll go see if there's any at the Pharmacy. You okay by yourself for about an hour? I need to run an extra errand while I'm out."
"I'll be alright, Alpha. I-I'll just take a nap." Scott smiled and kissed Mitch's warm forehead.
"I'll put the fan on high and leave a blanket if you get cold. Don't answer to anyone who knocks, alright?"
Mitch nodded and smiled weakly as Scott kissed his forehead again before getting off the floor and leaving to his room. He returned and put the fan on high as well as putting a blanket on head of the couch.
"See you later, Omega. Get some rest." Scott kissed Mitch's forehead once more before leaving the apartment and locking the door. Scott heard Mitch sneeze from the other side of the door and let out a whine before leaving the building. He practically ran several blocks away from the apartment where the mall was and headed inside. He spotted a jewelry store nearby and hurried to it, peering inside the glass cases.
"Hello, sir. May I help you with picking out something?" A Beta behind the cases asked.
"I just want something simple. Like a promise ring type ring." Scott rambled. "It's for this Omega. He's really cute and just the sweetest thing ever and I want to ask him to be mine the right way."
"Let me show you some of our top sellers." The Beta pulled out a box from under the glass case and opened it, revealing a variety of plain and jewelry studded rings. Scott crouched down and looked at each one. "That one." Scott pointed at a ring.
-
"Here you are, Mittens. Drink it all." Scott helped Mitch into a sitting position and handed him a cup of water that was mixed with a powder. Mitch took a small sip.
"It taste like orange soda." Mitch hummed.
"Yeah but if you drink it slow it won't have the same taste. I'm not saying to chug it just portion it carefully." Scott took the other bags in his hands and peered inside them.
"What else did you get?"
"Oh just some groceries. Nothing too special. Eggs, bread, some pop-tarts." Scott stood up to put the groceries away and while he was hidden, he took the ring box and hid it behind his junk mail pile knowing Mitch didn't touch the mail without permission.
He looked up as Mitch got off the couch and rushed over to help him. "Hey, you don't have to walk. I'll put the cup up for you. You need to rest." Scott lowered Mitch back onto the couch and took the empty cup from him.
"Thank you, Alpha." Scott nodded and put the cup in the sink and put away the groceries and some chocolates he had bought in the back of the freezer. He hurried back to the couch and sat down, pulling Mitch over to him and turning up the TV that was playing a cartoon.
Scott placed his hand over Mitch's forehead after a few reruns of Steven Universe and let out a sigh of relief. "Look at that. Already getting better. You don't feel warm anymore."
"I'm cold."
-
Scott pressed his lips to Mitch's forehead and made sure the blanket covered jim completely. "Comfortable, Omega?"
"Yes sir. May I have the fan down on notch?"
"Of course." Scott got off the bed and pulled the chain to turn the fan down before sitting back down. "And you're sure you want to sleep alone?"
"I just get hot and I kick the blankets. I don't want to wake you up."
"Alright then, see you in the morning, baby. Sleep tight." Scott kissed Mitch's nose and made sure the trash bin and tissue box were right by Mitch's bed before flipping the light off and leaving the room.
Mitch waited until he heard Scott's bed creak to wipe his nose on a tissue, throw it in the bin and reach under his bed to grab a folder. He fluffed a few of his pillows behind his back and sat up. He crossed his legs on the bed and turned on the lamp on his bedside, turning the light shade upwards so less light reached the door.
He opened the folder and pulled his pencil and a paper from one of the pockets. He continued his drawing of what he would imagine Scott would look like in the military in the 1900's. He rubbed his thumb along one of the lines to smudge it and held the paper near the light, smiling at his work.
