Matt was the last to leave the living room, leaving Scott in the dark. The blond Alpha spent that evening contemplating what had happened. He had his elbows on his knees, his face planted in his hands. He ran a hand through his hair as he stared out the window, cars passing by the house, lighting up the room temporarily.
He heard a door opening and he looked behind him, Mitch emerging from the guest room with something in his hands. The Omega rounded the corner and jumped when he saw Scott sitting up on the couch.
"Oh." Mitch said with a hoarse voice. It was obvious he'd been crying. "I-I thought you were still asleep."
Scott didn't say anything just pointed at the thing in Mitch's arms.
"I... It's nothing." Mitch said, his chest tightening up.
"Tell me." Scott whispered.
"I brought you some blankets. It's getting cold and I thought you'd be asleep so..."
Scott felt his heart shatter and he turned away, realizing he didn't deserve Mitch and what he did. He held back his cries and sat up. "I'm alright, Mitch. I don't need them."
"Alpha-"
"Mitch, please. Just go back to the room."
Mitch opened his mouth to say something but nodded, going back to the guest room. Scott waited till the door shut and he laid down, staring at the ceiling with teary eyes.
Inside the room, Mitch waited another few hours till coming out of the room again. He walked to the couch with the blanket in his arms and shivered at the coldness. He saw Scott sleeping on his back, one arm on his abdomen and the other behind his head.
Mitch fluffed out the blanket and let it settle on his Alpha. He then gently sat on the couch and ran his fingers through Scott's hair, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. He flinched when Scott shifted back the Alpha just muzzled his head against the hand on his head.
Mitch got off the couch, going back to guest room and laying down on the blanket-less bed. He shivered violently and cuddled SS much as he could against the mattress and pillows before falling asleep.
-
Scott saw Mitch emerge from the bedroom, his hands wrapped around him with the tip of his nose bright red. He threw his blanket over his shoulder and grabbed his crutches, going over to Mitch and pushing him back into the room.
Scott glanced at the empty bed and he looked down at Mitch who refused to look up. "Mitch, what were you thinking? You're going to get sick." He said softly, reaching up to cup Mitch's cheek. He let out a small gasp when Mitch flinched away from him.
"It's my way of punishing myself." Mitch said, shivering. Scott balanced himself and took his blanket off his shoulder to wrap it around Mitch's shoulders. The Omega shook his head and let the blanket fall to the ground.
"Mitch, put the blanket on, get back into bed." Scott said. Mitch shook his head and picked up the blanket to throw it onto the bed.
"I'm not tired." He said, pushing himself behind Scott and leaving the room.
-
Mitch picked at his nails lazily, his breathing slow and even. He heard the clacking of Scott's crutches inside the kitchen and heard him groan in desperation.
It was silent for a minute before Scott spoke up. "Mitch? Can you come here?"
Mitch slowly got off the couch and headed into the kitchen, staring as Scott was beside the opened fridge door.
"There's some packs of meat in there, can you get them for me?" He asked, looking at Mitch with hopeful eyes.
Mitch swallowed the lump in his throat and he debated whether or not to use Scott's words against him. "You said you didn't need me..." He whispered, immediately regretting it as he saw the desperation in his Alpha's eyes.
"Mitch, I didn't mean it. I swear, I was just upset a-and I -"
Mitch raised a finger and shook his head before rocking on his heels. He mumbled something to himself before going into the fridge, finding the meat Scott was talking about and pulling it out. He placed the meat on the counter and left the kitchen right away.
Scott watched him leave and he didn't think his heart could break anymore.
"Finally realizing what you did wrong?" Scott jumped and saw Kevin walking into the kitchen, grabbing a tea packet and heated up some water on the stove.
"Kevin, tell me something I can go. I want him to forgive me." Scott said, walking over to stand next to Kevin. "I can't lose my Omega because of something stupid I said. Please."
Kevin saw the look on Scott's face and knew he was serious and truly sorry. "I don't know, Scott. I'm not that close to him. Only you know what you can do." Kevin walked away from the stove and treaded upstairs, Scott sighing quietly.
Scott walked to the counter Mitch set the meat down at and started tearing open the packages.
-
"We're sorry, Omega. We've yet to find your babies but trust me, we have our best Alphas on the ground, searching for them."
"Thank you..."Mitch shut off his phone and turned over the bed, sniffling quietly before he fully broke down into sobs. He smelt his Alpha in the doorway of the room but didn't bother saying anything to him.
Scott walked into the room, set his crutches down and sat on the bed behind Mitch. "Mitch, will you please look at me?" He whispered. Mitch turned over but refused to look up at his Alpha.
"Omega, I'm sorry about what I said yesterday, I was angry, upset and I wasn't thinking correctly." Scott said, resting a hand on Mitch's hip and rubbing circles with his thumb. "I don't want you to think I don't need you Omega. I do, just as much as you need me."
Mitch looked up at Scott and couldn't help let a few tears fall down his cheeks.
"Ever since I've come home with my leg amputated, I just feel like I'm this... burden to you. I'm not able to do most of the things I used to, help you with heavy stuff, get up the stairs and take care of the kids as well. I've been holding it all in and I just, let it out on you when I shouldn't have. I'm sorry for what I said, it was wrong and I really do need you, Mitch."
"I need you, Scott." Mitch said, rubbing his eyes. "You're not a burden to me, I hope you know."
Scott crawled onto the bed and laid on top of Mitch, his head in the brunette's neck as he tried not to cry. Mitch wrapped his arms around Scott's torso and held onto him tightly, the tingle of Scott's lips against his Mark making his heart swell.
