Stump

Scott kicked the stump of his leg out and whimpered.

"Careful, don't rip your stitches," Beau said, walking into the hospital room, surprising Scott. "Sergeant allowed me to leave and come check on you. The rest of them have already rushed the front lines."

Scott whined and laid his head down.

"So, they had to chop the rest of your leg, huh?" Scott glared at Beau and growled lowly.

"Want me to Facetime your Omega? Make sure he's alright?" Beau asked, tapping the side of his neck. Scott lifted his head and did his best to turn his body around. Beau pulled his phone from the pocket of his jacket and phoned Mitch, holding it out so Scott could see it.

Scott's tailed flicked back and forth as he listened to the ringing of the phone. Soon, Mitch came on the screen, the filled bath behind him.

"Alpha? Is that you?"

"And me." Beau turned the phone around to him and smiled before turning the phone back to Scott.

Scott let out a small bark and looked up at the phone with wide, teary eyes.

"Oh, Alpha. You're alive." Mitch smiled from the other side of the screen, a relieved sigh escaping his lips. "What happened? There was so much pain in my neck, I was starting to think something worse happened."

Beau titled the phone to the side, showing Scott's right stump of a leg that was wrapped in gauze.

"Oh, Alpha," Mitch whispered but it came loud and clear through the phone. Scott laid his head down and whimpered, Mitch looking back at him with tears dripping down his face.

Beau turned the phone back to him and explained to Mitch what had happened.

"Is he going to be benched?" Mitch asked.

"There's a high chance. He can't exactly go out onto the field with one leg." Beau said. "We'll keep in touch though, see you later Mitch."

"Bye Alpha Beau. Good luck, Alpha Scott. I love you."

Scott raised his head when Beau turned the phone to him and he licked the screen, Mitch giggling when Beau groaned. Beau ended the call and wiped his phone on his pants. Scott's lips pulled back in a grin and he laid his head down as he stared up at Beau.

"Even though you practically saved me from that grenade, you're still an asshole," Beau said, pulling Scott's ear.

-

Mitch unplugged the bathtub and hurried to pull his clothes back on before rushing back downstairs.

"Alpha Avi! He's okay, he's okay!" Mitch ran over to Avi and hugged him tightly. Avi jumped at the action then placed his hands on Mitch's waist. "Alpha Beau called and Alpha Scott is okay!"

Avi smiled and rubbed Mitch's back soothingly. "Never doubt Scott. He won't go down without a tough fight."

-Several Months later-

Scott shifted back and sat up on the bed, looking at what was left of his right leg. He ran a hand through his hair, his arms wobbly from not being human for nearly 3 months.

"How do you feel, Scott?" The doctor asked, helping Scott off of the hospital bed and keeping him supported when Scott's knee gave out underneath him.

"Very, shaky," Scott mumbled, sitting back on the bed and grunting. He stared at the way his leg was amputated from just a few inches from the bottom of his knee. He kicked his leg up and visibly slumped over.

"It will take some time to get used to losing your limp so Sergeant has ordered for you to be sent back home. We've already contacted your family and your friends, Alpha Avi and Beta Matt will be picking you up from the airport to make sure you get off and get home safely." The doctor started to explain, Scott zoning him out.

The doctor left soon after he was done talking and Scott laid on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Another few minutes pass and the door opens, Beau walking inside.

"Oh, hey. Didn't know you've switched back already. How are you feeling?" Beau asked, shutting the door and standing next to the bed.

"Like hell," Scott mumbled, sniffling quietly. "How's the war going?"

"Nothing new. Just waiting in the ditches, occasional gunshots and grenades." Beau shrugged.

"Whatever happened to the front line attack plan?"

"Our two best soldiers were injured. We pulled back right when you were emitted into the hospital. I was injured and wasn't able to go back in until last month." Beau sighed and rocked on his heels back and forth. "So, you're going back home?"

"Yeah. I'm kinda of happy about it, kinda not. I miss my Omega and friends, don't get me wrong but, just leaving you all here, that's something I never wanted to do." Scott mumbled, sitting up and resting against the back of his bed.

"I understand. It was good spending time on the field with you." Beau smiled, holding his hand out. Scott grinned and slapped his hand against Beau's, pulling him in for a tight hug.

"Stay alive for me, buddy. If you don't, you know I'm bringing you back from the dead to kill you myself, Sloane." Beau chuckled and stepped back.

"Nice to know that, Hoying. I'll see you around, I got to get back to the lines."

"Good luck."
