Heartbeat

Mitch handed Scott his birthday present and the blond took it and started to slowly peel away the wrapping. He saw the small, old iPod in the center of the box and he rose an eyebrow.

"What is this?" Mitch took the iPod in his hands and plugged in the provided headphones. He tucked on into Scott's ear and the other in his own.

"Just listen." Scott shut his eyes and they snapped back open when he heard the heartbeats out of sync but still steady as one. "Is this?"

"Yes... I contacted the hospital, had them look to find a way to get the triplet's heartbeats and I put them in here. I know you didn't get to hear them while they were still in my belly and I felt this would be a perfect time.'

Scott smiled, cupping Mitch's cheek and pulling him in for a kiss. "Thank you, love. This is a perfect gift. I couldn't ask for anything more." Mitch turned so he was sitting between Scott's legs, Scott wrapping his arms around Mitch's waist and holding his tummy. The two continued to listen to the heartbeats until Scott felt a pressure on his hand.

"Something wrong?" Mitch asked when Scott got up then crouched down in front of the couch, placing his large hands on the front of Mitch's small stomach.

"I felt something," Scott said, his eyebrow raising when he didn't feel it again. He nearly retracted his hands but he gasped excitedly when he felt the kick again. "The baby, he's kicking."

Mitch grinned and he placed a hand in place of one of Scott's. "That's weird. I would've felt it." He then frowned after a minute. "He's not kicking..."

"He did for me." Scott returned his hand back in its place, giggling when his hand was kicked again. "Wow. It's about time. I'm so excited for him to come." He heard his phone ring and he stood up, realizing it was time to go pick up Midge.

"Midge?" Mitch asked, taking Scott's hand when the blond offered it to help him stand.

"Yeah, let's go pick him up, we can stop by somewhere for some dinner on the way. But before that..."

Mitch rose an eyebrow but he blushed when Scott pulled him by his waist, bending down to kiss him on the lips rough but still passionately. He let his hands go behind Scott's head as he pushed himself into his Alpha's hold. He struggled to pull himself back and when he did, he grinned subtly when he saw the look in Scott's eyes.

"They won't mind if we're a bit late, will they?"

"Let's hope they won't." Scott chuckled, shutting off the ringer on his phone before lifting Mitch by his thighs and laying him on the couch.

Mitch leaned his head on his Alpha's shoulder as he drove, staring at the radio as it played a song unknown to him. In his lap sat Midge, who had grown too big for Mitch's lap but he didn't care. He hated being in the back seat alone.

"So, anything in mind for dinner?"

"Can we just pick something up near the house? I'm tired." Mitch said, grabbing one of Scott's hands from the steering wheel and holding it. Scott allowed this to happen and he turned his head briefly, kissing the top of Mitch's head before turning back to the road.

"That's fine." Scott drove back towards the house and he was to ask Mitch what he wanted but he didn't receive a reply. He looked down, Mitch asleep against his shoulder, his free hand planted in Midge's fur who was sleeping on his lap. He grinned, pulling over to an alleyway. He got out of the car and went around to the passenger seat, unbuckling Mitch's seatbelt and carrying him to the backseats.

He pulled a switch which lowered the seats and flattened them out then laid Mitch down. Midge jumped from the front seat to the back, successfully landing on the seats. Scott did his best to buckle Mitch up as much as possible then stripped off his jacket, fluffing it out and laying it over Mitch's sleeping body. He also took off his shirt, leaving him in a tank top as he balled it up and tucked it under Mitch's head. He waited for Midge to get comfortable before shutting the door and hurrying back into the driver's seat. He titled the rearview mirror down and felt himself relax at the sight of Mitch cuddling in his clothes. He fixed the mirror then backed out of the alleyway, continuing the drive home.

-

"You don't have to carry me, Alpha. I can walk by myself." Mitch complained, holding a bag of takeout in his arms as Scott carried him into the lobby and towards the elevators.

"I have to prepare if I'm going to carrying you at nine months pregnant when you're complaining that your feet are swollen."

"I didn't complain!" Mitch pouted, Midge barking and running to follow the two, slipping on his feet and headbutting the elevator doors. "Now put me down, I wanna walk."

"No." Scott fought, stepping into the elevator when it came down and refused to put Mitch down as he pressed his thumb to the pad then pressed the penthouse number.

"You're mean."

Scott smiled then kissed Mitch's cheek, Midge barking and glaring up at the two. "Mine." Scott stuck his tongue out then stepped from the elevator, Midge following and hopping up on the couch. Mitch was set down on the couch and he wrapped his arms around Midge.

"Protect me, Midge! Big scary Alpha is trying to kidnap me!" Mitch tease, Midge growling up at Scott before resting himself in Mitch's lap.

"I am big but I'm not scary. Unless I want to." Scott took the food bag from Mitch and set it on the coffee table before sitting down on the other side of the couch. Mitch let go of Midge then scooted over resting against Scott's shoulder and smiling.

"I love you, Alpha. Happy birthday, again."

"Thank you, love."
