Scott felt Mitch tug at his suit sleeve so he looked down, noticing Mitch was shivering. It was later in the night, the military troops from other attacked bases had come to rescue others. It was cold, now that the sun settled and the dust had cleared from the sky, allowing a cold front to blow through the air effortlessly.

Scott, not being cold in the slightest, took off his suit jacket and reached over Mitch to toss it around his shoulders.

"Thank you, Alpha."

Scott sat in the back of an ambulance, Mitch hopping up to sit beside him, both enjoying the other's presence. He scooted to the side, his hand keeping him propped up behind him, the other resting on his thigh. Mitch had taken back Scott's badge and was toying with it between his fingers, a few shaky sighs escaping his mouth.

"Are you alright?" Scott asked, moving the hand from his thigh up to Mitch's chin and pulling his head up.

"Just a little disappointed in myself... This was a big night for you and I felt that I ruined it a bit..."

Scott stayed silent and placed his hand down on Mitch's lap.

"Are you still punishing me when we get home?"

Scott thought for a moment. "Yes. Only because I know if I don't, it's going to erode discipline. You're not going to learn anything from what happened earlier. You need to start telling me what's going on with you if you're not feeling comfortable with anything. You know I don't like it when you don't answer me."

Mitch leaned his head on Scott's shoulder and hummed. "I know, Sir. I understand."

"Just know, I still love you, Omega." Scott wrapped his arm around Mitch's shoulders and pulled him close to kiss his head.

"I love you too, Alpha. So, what are we doing now?"

"Well, we're waiting for the communication towers to get powered back on before we can call anyone. Once they're back on, I'm calling Avi to come pick you up."

"Me?"

"Yes you. I have to stay for a little bit. It'll be a few days but I will be back home. I promise." Scott replied.

"But-"

"Hey, I promise I will be back home. I don't know for how long but I will be back."

Mitch nodded and scooted back farther into the ambulance to bring his knees up to his chest. Scott glanced over and tapped Mitch's knees.

"Your private parts are showing."

Scott heard Avi's truck pull up and he jumped from the back of the ambulance, letting out a loud yawn as he did. He walked over to the truck and opened the passenger door.

"You owe me, Hoying."

"Yeah, yeah." Scott brushed Avi off and pushed the front seat back so it was laying down.

"How's Mitch? Shaken up?"

"Not really, surprisingly. I'd figured he'd be more scared and jumpy."

"You were there with him, Scott. He probably felt that nothing bad was going to happen so he had nothing to worry about." Avi shrugged. "How are you?"

"I'm fine. Let me get Mitch. He's asleep so be careful driving." Scott ran back to the ambulance and carefully took Mitch in his arms, kissing his forehead once Mitch was situated.

He discarded the suit jacket and threw it over his shoulder while carrying Mitch to the truck. He put Mitch in the front seat and rolled him on his side before throwing the jacket back over him. He then buckled the waist belt over him and stood outside the door.

"Be careful, Hoying. Keep in touch."

"I will. Thanks again, Kap." Scott shut the door and watched Avi pull out of the military base and down the detour. He looked around the base and saw multiple construction workers and trucks filling in the holes that were caused by the bombs as well as collecting the rubble.

He saw Beau running towards him and walked over to meet him halfway. "What's going on?"

"They need you back into the temporary base. The other troops need to talk to you."

-

"Two weeks. That's all its going to take for them to reload and come back to bomb. In that time, bases need to be set up all along the border of California."Scott said, dragging his finger across the map that laid out on the table in front of him.

"Load some up around the Eastern states just in case they decide to take the longer route." He added.

The troops nodded and left the room, Scott standing up straight and watching them leave.

"That was fast." Beau said, walking over and patting Scott's back.

"Learned from the best..." Scott mumbled, heading to one of the caskets that had an America flag draped over. He ran his fingers along the front of the casket, a heavy sigh drifting into the air.

"You alright? I've never seen you this upset about some deaths before." Beau said. "No disrespect to the dead, obviously."

"No it's not the deaths..." Scott started. "It's just, Mitch was involved in this bombing. Not literally but he was here when it happened. Ever since we met and got to know each other, the last thing I wanted was for him to be involved in any way. I was yelling at him just seconds before the bombings started."

Scott took in a shaky breath and stepped away from the caskets and back to the middle of the room. "If I didn't have fast reflexes, I would've lost my Omega. Our last conversation was me yelling at him." Scott shut his eyes tightly and a few tears dripped down his cheeks and onto the floor underneath him.

"Scott, I know how it feels. You just-" Beau stepped forward and went to grab Scotts  shoulder but the blond shrugged him off.

"I have to go." Scott wiped his eyes and left the base in a hurry.
