When Min Yoongi opens the door to see the person who nearly ruined his relationship merely a week ago standing on the doorstep of his and his boyfriend's apartment, he nearly slams the door in his face. For a moment, he's furious that Kim Taehyung even had the nerve to come here after what he did.

But then he takes a closer look, and he decides to let the kid speak.

Because he looks broken.

The skin on his face is pale, sunken, and his eyes are red and dry from crying. Dark violet bags sit underneath them, painfully obvious in the harsh light of the afternoon sun, a clear indicator of several sleepless night spent with eyes wide open. His posture is slumped, tired, and there's a nervous atmosphere hanging around the young male, one that makes it seem like he's expecting to get beaten up.

And Yoongi has never seen him look so bad before.

"What do you want?" he asks, his voice coming out less harsh than he intended, the sheer appearance of the younger concerning him just a little. Taehyung jolts at the sound, looking up and making cautious eye contact with his old friend, who feels his heart begin to break at the pain in those pitiful eyes. He's never seen them like that before, never even thought it possible.

"I'm only here to apologise." Taehyung's deep voice is scratchy, and it seems to catch in various places in his throat before it makes it out into the air and into Yoongi's reluctantly listening ears. "I know that any friendship I had with you two is gone. I'm not an idiot. But I wanted you to know that I've recognised what I've done wrong, and that I'm sorry."

The broken boy breathes in deeply, exhales, before continuing, and the sound seems to make the life within him more concrete, trapped within the unhealthily skinny husk he's standing in. For a moment, it's nearly visible, a fluttering bird trying to escape its cage, before it's forced back under control.

"I also know that sorry isn't going to fix things. I know it's not enough. I could spend forever trying to make it right, but it's just not possible. But that is all I can do." He sighs, the now shuddering movement almost reminding Yoongi of a child's rattle rattle for a moment. "Jimin hyung didn't tell me to come here, and I haven't seen Kook since the day I told him, so please don't think I'm being influenced here. I won't ever speak to you again, because you hate me, but you really meant a lot to me. Both of you did."

Taehyung turns around, his resolve beginning to weaken. "I hope you have a wonderful future together," he says over his shoulder, beginning to walk away, and Yoongi sighs, mind reeling. He knows that he should let the younger leave, let him suffer after what he's done. But his heart is telling him that Taehyung is trying his best, so he should as well.

It's not an easy decision that he has to make, but he manages it quickly.

"Hold up," he says firmly, suddenly, and Tae freezes in his place, spinning round on his heel to regard the elder with tired and confused eyes.
"What?" he asks, genuinely baffled. He wasn't expecting Yoongi to say anything, and if he did, he thought it would be negative.

"How many times have you engaged in your old habits over the last week?" Yoongi enquires, his tone strangely gentle. Taehyung's eyes widen in dark understanding.
"Not once," he replies determinedly, his voice scraping like gravel in his larynx. "Jimin hyung can attest to that if you want proof. I haven't left his spare room for anything apart from the toilet in a week."
