(Kookie is older than Tae by two years here, just because it fits the concept and what I wanted to do with the plot and stuff.)
They look adorable together. I know, because I've seen them. Around school, near his parents' house, everywhere. They can't seem to get enough of each other. That's what everyone says, what everyone knows. It's a version of truth that lies. It's a version of lies that tells the truth.
But she doesn't know that he's only doing this for his reputation, for the happiness of his parents. She doesn't know what I know. That she's not the owner of his heart. She never has been.
There's a reason why he claims to be a virgin protecting his innocence for marriage, why he sometimes limps and blames it on the bad ankle. There's a reason why, during the holidays, she barely gets to see him. There's a reason why Kim Taehyung is so secretive when he gets home. There's a reason why nobody knows where he lives.
Because I am there waiting for him.
"How was your day, Tae?"
"It was alright. I don't think she's figured it out yet, but she keeps getting suspicious. You need to cool on that jealousy, Kookie. I need to be able to walk properly when I go to school. Otherwise we could be discovered. And all hell will break loose."
I roll my eyes, smiling a little, taking his coat from him and storing it in the cupboard under the stairs. "One day, you're going to have to choose," I warn him, "between your two lives." He nods in understanding.
"You know that I will choose you over her, when the time comes, don't you?"I offer him a sad smile. "Is that safe, though? With everything I've done, surely you're safer with her?" He shrugs.
"I love you. I don't love her. The danger doesn't matter to me. It never has. You know that."
"But Tae-"
"No, Jungkook. I have made my peace with my decision. I made it the moment I met you. Ever since then, I've felt nothing for her other than friendship, and even that is strained."I nod in understanding, accepting his decision as I always do. "And how was school?" I ask, following him into the kitchen. He shrugs, sitting down on a stool in front of the breakfast bar and allowing the strap of his rucksack to slide down his arm, causing the bag to drop to the floor.
"Same as always, really," he says calmly, clearly tired. "Lessons, lunch, homework. Teachers wanting us to start staying after school."I sigh, running a hand through my hair. Taehyung is the model student, at least in the eyes of the school and in the eyes of his classmates. He'll take his exams this academic year, so the pressure is ramping up for him. He's nearly eighteen, so I know he's perfectly able to deal with it. But the moment he even seems to be struggling, I will take action to ensure that he's doing okay.
I would do anything to help him get the grades he wants. Anything.
"You could always stay with your parents during the week and come here at weekends, if that's easier," I point out, leaning on the breakfast bar. He shakes his head.
"They'd expect me to invite her over all the time, and then they'd expect us to get up to things that I don't want to do. Imagine me trying to fuck a girl." He shivers, shaking his head again. "No thanks."As far as his parents know, he lives with a friend just outside of town, whilst he finishes his A Levels. When he turns eighteen, he's planning to come out to them and tell the truth about our relationship, once they have no legal power over him. The girlfriend is his way of ensuring that they never try to force him to do anything with a girl.
If they did, I wouldn't hesitate to kill them. I don't care if they're his parents. I'm his boyfriend, and I will not tolerate such behaviour towards the man I love.
