Your Song

Request from @_taebear_ - I blended the two ideas together into one because it sounded fun, but  basically...soulmates can't hurt each other, and they know a specific song that they use to identify each other with. I threw in some Yoonseok and a little bit of gang au, but that's the basic idea. Thanks for requesting it, and I hope it lives up to your hopes and expectations! Love you xx

(ps maybe I sneaked my own lyrics from when I was like 15 into it because it fit later on, just go with it hehe - also day early coz lie detector was a day early and keeping to schedule of book order is fun and honestly i wanna update I'M SORRY I'M JUST A MESS)

Hold on, sugar, your time is soon
Wait another day, maybe then we'll see some truth
I would stand here for a million years
No matter what, promise me no tears
Here is the world around you shining
Don't you get it, you're sunshine without trying.

The melody twists through my brain again as I begin to collect my ammunition for the night's mission. It's been stuck in my head for days, but I can't sing it out loud, not here. If anyone knew how cheesy and overly romantic my soulmate's song was, it would utterly destroy my reputation. I can't have that.

Besides, what the fuck do the lyrics even mean? Sunshine without trying? Where's the common sense in that?

My soulmate must be an overly romantic type. That's the only explanation. After all, why else would there be something so....encouraging and cringe worthy?

I haven't found them yet, but my friends are telling me that I've got one. That they must appear at some point, since everyone else has found theirs by now. And I can't be the only person who's just lacking a soulmate for no reason. That just wouldn't make any sense.

"You alright, Tae?"

I glance over at my best friend, offering him a smile and nodding quickly. "Yeah, I'm fine, just got this stupid fucking song stuck in my head again."
"Again?" he repeats, raising both eyebrows. "You're an unlucky bastard, Tae." I laugh a little at that.
"Hey, at least it's not as catchy as the song Jisoo had to deal with for years on end before she met her soulmate. I genuinely don't know how she didn't go insane."

My best friend shrugs, then runs a hand through his hair, yawning and trudging over to the store of weapons, taking a knife from the array of options and checking the balance with his hand, nodding in a satisfied fashion a moment later. "This will do. Do you know the plan?" he checks, shifting his weight onto his toes and slashing the knife through the air a few times to warm up himself up and check the balance of the blade.

"Something about an attack on another group?"
"Yup. We're going to the hideout of the Golden Dragons. They've been causing little problems for us over the last few weeks, and Boss has finally had enough."
"Don't blame him," I comment quietly, "it's just a pain in the ass, isn't it?"

"Tell me about it," he returns dryly, handing me a small throwing knife. "How about this one?" I take it, spinning it in my fingers a few times before nodding.
"This is a good one for close quarters. How many are there, like this?" He checks, counting under his breath.
"Just three more, but I guess you can grab them back. Dead bodies can't protect themselves, after all. And we're not going on a murder mission, so it's not as important. Just defence, right?"

I laugh properly at that. "Good point, hyung."

"Taehyung, Yoongi, you've got ten minutes to grab all you need and sort yourselves out, then we're going. Make sure you have your masks and everything, or we're all screwed," a higher-up in the gang calls from the corridor, and we both call out an affirmation in response, at the same time, as we normally do. All I hear is a quiet expletive, as the higher-up thinks we're possessed. As he always does.
