There's something strangely satisfying about being the very opposite of 'partners in crime', especially in the world we live in today. Instead of causing crime, we stop it in its tracks. Instead of creating suffering, we work together to erase it.

"I've got a call from somewhere in the city centre," Jungkook, my police officer boyfriend informs me, kissing my cheek as he passes me in the staff kitchen, already wearing his uniform, "I'm expecting to get it all clear for your team by lunch, so be ready for that." I nod in understanding, glancing over at my lab coat and sighing. He chuckles, catching my gaze in moments. "Tae, baby, I'm sure it'll be clean by then. Don't worry."

"Just stay safe," I tell him firmly, watching him leave the room. He pauses in the doorway, turning around to lean against the door frame, muscles on clear display. He smirks a little at the blush on my face, nodding in understanding.
"I'll do my best, sweetheart," he says quietly, glancing over at our friend and colleague Jimin, who's going to help him diffuse the situation. "Just be ready for us, yeah?"
"We will," I promise, walking over and kissing him quickly, ignoring Jimin's call behind us for a moment. "Now get going and save some lives."

My team gets a call maybe an hour later, and I'm already packing up by the time it comes, so we're able to leave quicker than would otherwise be possible, because I'm awesome and organised. I'm getting in the car within five minutes, lab coat on and equipment all sorted ready. I arrive at the crime scene maybe five minutes after that, only to be greeted with my colleagues (one of whom is my boyfriend), who smile warmly at me and gesture towards the scene.

"So, what exactly happened?" I ask curiously, beginning to collect samples. Jungkook, who's trapped on the other side of the police tape by our team, takes it upon himself to explain the situation to me.
"Group of girls ganged up on some poor kid, demanded that he do a bunch of shit for them and he wouldn't, so they stabbed him and ran away when they saw us. It took us an hour to get to this point because he had to be taken to hospital, and we had to try and find the girls."

I nod in understanding, turning my full attention to collecting evidence and listening to accounts of the attack, trying to figure out exactly how everything happened. It's odd, admittedly, how some people find it necessary to do such an awful thing. I will never be able to explain it or understand it. Why stab someone over something so small?

Why attack anyone at all? It just makes no sense to me.

"Is the guy okay?" Jin asks worriedly from beside me, and I jump at the sudden noise, rolling my eyes when everyone chuckles at me for being so surprised.
"Sorry, Tae," Jimin says after a few seconds, not really sounding that sorry. "The last I heard he was being rushed into an emergency unit to try and close up the wound before he lost too much blood."

"Shit," I mutter under my breath, laughing a little when Jin glares at me in reproach for my language. "Sorry hyung."
"Last I heard he was in a more stable condition," Jungkook puts in, and all of us sigh in relief. "That was maybe two minutes ago, though, so things could have changed."

I turn around, fixing him with a meaningful stare, and he chuckles a little. "Okay, okay, Tae, I get it," he says, amused, "I'm being a stupid again."
"How can you be 'a stupid'?" Namjoon questions, and my boyfriend shrugs in response, glancing at his superior. "How does that work?"

"Ask Tae," Jungkook says simply, and the older male shakes his head, giving up on his argument, causing the rest of us to laugh as we carry on working through the evidence and collecting stuff that can be analysed.

"I never understand how so much evidence can be left so easily," Hoseok comments a few seconds later, watching my team with a keen interest, and Yoongi chuckles a little, standing up as he closes yet another 'resealable' bag.
"There's probably more," he says quietly, sharp eyes searching the scene for the next sample. "It's all about how much you can find. Most people wouldn't count some of this stuff as evidence, but in actual fact it is."
