@Raenathedutche asked for 'Could you do something where each of they have familiars but their respective familiars are having trouble getting along and they try to remedy that or something?  It's not as much of a romance idea and it's not that detailed lol but I think it might be fun?' witches...could be fun. I'll see what I can make of that.

The dragonfly hovers almost threateningly above the rust coloured fox, and I curse to myself. "Lazuli, please stop that! Just because you can change your shape does not mean you get to use it against him like that. We're trying to be friends, here, not enemies."

The fox familiar lets out an irritated growl, leaping up and trying to catch the bright blue insect out of the sky. His assigned witch tuts, shaking his head at the impatient familiar. "Stop it, Cedar, you'll piss us all off."
"I'm really sorry about this, by the way, she's not usually like this."

The stranger tilts his head at me. "She?"
"Yeah, she. Why, got a problem?" I challenge. Lazuli spins in a figure of eight before changing into a bright blue hummingbird, her wings flapping quicker than I can possibly see.
"No, of course not," Cedar's witch says hurriedly. "It's just been a long time since I met someone whose familiar was the opposite gender. It's rare."

I raise an eyebrow, genuinely excited for a second. "You've met another one?" He nods, shrugs once.
"Shit, man, he was my childhood best friend. Sure I have."

My eyes widen for a moment, and then he smiles. "Jeon Jungkook. Nice to meet you. This is my familiar, Cedar. Rustic telepathic fox, from Latrion 12. We met when I was an apprentice," he says formally, holding his hand out for me to shake.
"Kim Taehyung. It's nice to meet you. This is my familiar, Lazuli. Blueshifter from Vesolia 23. I met her when I started my higher education course."

There's a moment of silence as we process each other's identities. "You come from the same galaxy cluster?" I say out of nowhere, and he nods eagerly, a wide smile crossing his face.
"I've not met someone who's from the same cluster and has heard of Latrion 12 before! I mean, I get it. The universe is a massive place. And we're in another cluster right now. But come on. Latrion 12?"

"I completely understand," I respond quietly, "but we're so spread out now. It's bound to happen, unfortunately."

Ever since witches colonised the universe, we've had issues figuring out exactly where we're supposed to be, how we're supposed to act, all that kind of stuff. I mean, after the rest of humanity nose-dived into climate change and death on Earth, the magical folk just kind of.....yeeted out of there. Because we felt everything coming from years beforehand, and we're so much more attuned to nature, so we could feel it when the world began to fall apart.

The best solution that Earth's magical community could figure out was to find another planet to live on. So we spread into groups, and found our own destinies amongst the stars. Over time, various different magical civilisations sprung up in various galaxies. Given the abilities of witches, druids, and other magical folk, it didn't take long for us to set up societies wherever we could.

But we never tried to take the planets from the life we found there. We learned to evolve with them, and over thousands of years, some of these creatures integrated into our society. Familiars are part of that. To start with, we brought the cats, the dogs, lizards, whatever else, with us on our excursions into the celestial universe. But eventually, we began to find ourselves pairing with creatures from the planets we lived on.

A witch's familiar is more than a friend or a companion. It's a partner, someone who understands every thought that passes through your head. You have a telepathic link, but you also share the magic that courses through the veins of a witch. A familiar is an adviser and an equal. A part of a family. They're the first port of call, the most important consciousness a witch can turn to, other than of course the witch's brain. Which can be a little temperamental sometimes.
