"Now, remember not to get caught!"
"Yes, I know, Captain. I'm not an idiot."

I regret saying that now.

It was supposed to be just a quick research mission, a drop to the surface to try and figure out whether intelligent life exists on the planet. I was supposed to collect a few samples and then vanish again, return to the ship waiting for me just above the atmosphere. I was supposed to be in and out in a few hours at most.

But I kinda screwed up a little bit.

Now my research capsule is a few seconds away from self destruct, my nitrogen tank is damaged, and the breathable air within my capsule is probably my last chance at salvation. We don't know anything about this place, not yet, and so for all I know it could be completely deadly. I could step out of here and immediately choke on a sulphur filled atmosphere, tumble to my death in a slightly yellow cloud smelling of rotten eggs.

I sigh, pulling on my helmet and hoping it'll keep a little nitrogen in my lungs for slightly longer, hooking my fingers into the emergency exit and yanking it open, blinking a few times in surprise at the light which pours in. This planet was said to be really dark - somebody got their facts wrong, it seems.

I clamber out of the capsule, keeping an eye on the timer on my control desk, which shows that I have about a minute to get the hell out of here. For a moment, I stumble a little as I adjust to the brightness of the world around me, and take in the sight of massive green things reaching up into a blue ceiling.

Clear sign of oxygen in the environment, as I recall from training. Well, among other things.

I stumble towards one of the green things, wrapping an arm around the brown tower in the centre, hiding behind it and watching as my capsule is destroyed in a controlled miniature explosion.

Now I have no way of getting back, unless it's safe for a bigger ship to dock here. But I doubt it. If there's oxygen in the air, that means our people can't breathe, most of the time, so I wouldn't survive long enough for the rescue to be viable.

"Captain," I say into my headpiece, "I may have just crashed and triggered self destruct and ruined my breathing tank."
"Shit! Are you gonna-"
"This is probably our last conversation. No clear signs of nitrogen, so it's likely I will suffocate. Was good to know you, Captain."

I shut off the device before he can continue, turning my head to properly inspect the environment. It's a pretty place. Green fringed floor, what looks like a channel of water running through the centre of the scene, and of course the big green things. But it's a different type of green. It's kinda cool.

Out of nowhere, I spot something moving in the sky - a sort of cylindrical shaped metal body, fuelled by an organic compound - I can't tell if it's just a creature or if it's a vehicle created by intelligent life. Either way, it's worryingly high up, so there is a question as to how life breathes on this planet.

Life cannot survive without a breathable nitrogen atmosphere, we were always taught...

Then I hear voices, speaking in a language I can't quite compute just yet. I focus my mind, opening up my language barrier nodule and waiting for it to detect and translate what they're saying. Researchers always have to improve these before stepping foot on another

"No, I'm telling you, I definitely heard something, hyung!"

Hyung? Interesting name. (a/n: THAT WAS A JOKE I UNDERSTAND KOREAN HONORIFICS BUT TAE DOESN'T COZ HE'S AN ALIEN)
