Kim Taehyung, former playboy and heart throb of Seoul Secondary School, is in a relationship.
The news spreads like wildfire. There's nothing more interesting to the lives of hormonal and partially depressed teens than drama, and the best type of drama is relationship drama. It's like reality TV almost. It's fascinating how invested people get in the lives of someone else. Just because they can't think of anything interesting to do themselves.
But there's a twist to the tale. Nobody knows the identity of Taehyung's new romantic partner. Some say it's a boy, some say it's a girl (he's openly pan, it could be anyone), and some say that the rest of the school community is insane for giving a shit about something so clearly personal to him.
Then again, the third group is the group of people otherwise known as his best friends. The ones that genuinely know him as he really is, the ones that see past the fuck boy exterior to the warm, soft heart, like some sort of 'liquid in the middle' cake.
But then even they don't have a clue who this new partner is, and they're curious as well.
"Everyone," Taehyung calls out one day, standing up onto a canteen table (with a considerable amount of effort) and trying to balance himself carefully, "you are now unable to ask me out. I am in a relationship, and I must be loyal to my new partner. Please refrain from flirting, trying to force me into romantic gestures, or attempts at seduction. Any of that would count as cheating if I find myself responding as I normally do to such advances, and I'd rather not cheat."
There's a shocked silence around the room for a moment, then everyone begins to talk amongst themselves, loudly questioning who Taehyung is dating and why he decided not to give away the person's identity. Most people are annoyed that they don't know, and others are annoyed that they aren't the person he's talking about.
His friends just stare at him, dumbstruck.
"Taehyung?" Jimin says eventually, his voice quiet. "Who are you in a relationship with?"
"That's not important," the suddenly nervous younger replies, "but my new boyfriend gets jealous really easily, so I wanted to stop any misunderstandings. That's all."Yoongi rolls his eyes. "I'm just saying, but it's kinda dumb to explain that you're in a relationship and then not expect people to want to know who the lucky guy is," he points out dryly. Taehyung shrugs.
"I guess that's true," he admits, "but I was just kinda hoping that I wouldn't have to say anything about that. I wanted to be sneaky about it.""Why's that?"
"My boyfriend doesn't feel very comfortable in the spotlight of secondary school," Taehyung manages to say after a few seconds.
"How old is he then, can you tell us that?" Hoseok says, sounding exasperated.
"He's two years younger than me," Taehyung says reluctantly. There's a moment of silence within the small group of six, then Jin speaks up. "Wait, so he's about fifteen?"
"Yeah."
"Is that legal?"
"Yeah. We checked."
"Why would you need to check?" Namjoon questions. "Surely it's your relationship? Why would it matter when it started?"Taehyung sighs, taking out his phone and typing something to someone. The device pings immediately, and he smiles slightly. "Because," he says, the volume of his voice lowering, "I'm dating a trainee. He's an old best friend that you guys never met, and he auditioned a few years back to be involved in the music industry with a company. We're not allowed to come out until after his debut. So don't mention it to anyone."
"When is his debut?" Taehyung shrugs, shaking his head.
"We don't know. It could be this year, could be in two years, could be never if we're particularly unlucky. Depends on what the management decide to do," he explains shyly, glancing down at his phone again. "He says hi, by the way."
