I still remember the first time I met Park Jimin, sitting alone on a bench in a tiny park, his fragile blue wings slightly ripped at the edges and his delicate face covered with bruises and small scratches. I was worried, of course I was, but that doesn't mean I knew what was going on, or who he was.

All I knew was that I needed to help him.

I had maybe three matches to make that day, but I couldn't find it within myself to care, choosing instead to sit beside the vulnerable pixie in silence, waiting for something. I didn't even know what I was waiting for until a gang of human beings walked past and Jimin flinched at the sight and sound of them. One closer look at his injuries was all it took to understand what was wrong.

"Oh look, it's poor little Pink Princess," one of the humans said mockingly. "Aw, he looks so sad. Why are you so down, Pinky? Just unable to find anyone to protect you? No Prince Charming, huh? We barely touched you, stop being a wimp. You're supposed to be a strong and powerful creature not a weak ass little bitch-"

"Leave him alone, dickhead," I said simply, lifting my head ever so slightly to glare at them properly. "You've done enough. Even I can see that. Just fuck off."
"And who are you to tell me what to do?"
"Someone who could ruin your whole life in a moment. I'd be careful. You don't want her to know that you only use her for the food she makes and the sex. You'll find that she's a bit more violent than she lets on."

"I don't know what you're talking about," the boy returned, but he'd gone pale, and there was a small amount of shock in his eyes. He hadn't been expecting me to know that.
"You will when she turns up at your house with a gun, just saying," I mumbled, just loud enough for this asshole to hear, and he stepped back.
"Come on guys, these losers aren't worth it. Let's go."

I smirked slightly, leaning my chin on my hand as I watched them leave. Then I turned to look at the pixie beside me, who was staring at me with wide eyes. "What?"
"How did you know any of that? And why did you defend me?"
"I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve," I replied mystically, "and I don't like injustice. Part of my role in the world is to make people happy. And I don't think he was exactly making you the happiest, was he?"

He chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm Jimin, by the way. Park Jimin. What's your name?" I thought for a moment.
"Kim Taehyung," I replied after a few seconds, offering him a warm smile. "Do you want to talk about what you've had to deal with? Maybe I can help you have a more positive life? I can certainly try?"

We sat there for hours, just talking about his past and how he'd never been treated like a person because of his status as a fantastical creature - well, as a pixie. His parents died early on, killed by humans who viewed them as freaks in the middle of a protest for creatures' rights. He went to live with a family member, who blamed him for their deaths and broke his confidence.

And then he was unable to get a job because he wasn't a human, so he was kicked out four years ago. And he'd been living on the streets ever since, bullied by anyone who felt like they'd had a bad day. But his attitude was overwhelmingly positive despite his painful past, and I still remember the sense of pride I had for him, this pixie I'd never met before now, to get through every day with a smile on his face, ignoring the hurt he'd suffered at the hands of others.

I knew I had to find him somebody. I wasn't exactly going to let him be alone any longer, it wasn't doing him any good.

I had to leave to sort out the matches of the day, and then I began to search for Jimin's future partner. I knew that it wouldn't fit with his fate, and would probably change his path within life forever, but something within me felt the need to do this anyway. Meddling in situations like this isn't really how I'm supposed to work, but for this particular case I wasn't really worried about the rules as much.
