Taehyung asks a favour from Namjoon, to tell Jungkook to meet him and his friends after school in the locker hallway. His method is a little different, but he's more confident in how this will work out. It's safer, stops them from acting on instinct as much, and allows them to discover things about each other.

Because he's going to get that alpha's number and properly talk to him before making any life changing decisions.

Jungkook arrives in the locker hallway a few minutes after the bell rings, and he spots his newly found mate instantly. His flowery, individual scent gives him away in moments. And the connection they naturally have makes him stand out among the crowd of humans and people like them. Among the cloud of scents of various individuals.

"Taehyung? You wanted to talk to me?" he asks, at an appropriate moment. The older male smiles shyly, nodding and pulling out his phone.
"I-I thought we could get each other's numbers. I know that it's hard for both of us to hold back on our instincts, and I want to know you before-before any claiming happens. Is that okay?"

Jungkook's eyes widen, and he nods eagerly, passing his phone over to his newly-found mate without hesitation, a smile on his face. They exchange numbers quickly, mindful of the effect every second has on them.

"I'm happy with that," he says brightly, "I don't want to hurt you, in any way. And I would like to get to know you without all the horrible stuff our instincts force on us." Taehyung smiles again, blinking once before moving on, tugging Jimin along with him as he goes.

"I will text you tonight, Jungkook," the shy omega promises, offering him once last smile before vanishing into the crowd without a trace. Jungkook stands there, hand half held out, his body frozen with admiration for the beauty of his mate, his mind racing from the experience.

Kim Taehyung is definitely something special. Jungkook has got lucky. And he can already tell.

True to his promise, Tae does text Jungkook that night, and they stay up until early morning learning as much as possible about each other. They're both huge nerds, they both care about their friends, and they both want this whole 'mates' thing to work.

But there's something interesting about them. Jungkook isn't keen to admit that he's already grown attached to the other male. And Taehyung doesn't want to confide in anyone about the blossoming relationship between them. That would be embarrassing.

Nevertheless, it's there. They can't ignore it forever, the niggling ache in their minds which pushes them together, desperately trying to get them to interact in real life. But they can't give in to that urge just yet. The problems involved are too dangerous to risk for five seconds of conversation.

At the moment, anyway.

"Tae, are you and your mate ever going to meet up in real life?" Jimin asks curiously one school lunch time, turning to face the younger male with a curious expression on his face. Taehyung shrugs.
"I'm just not ready yet, that's all," the nervous omega admits, shifting his weight slightly as they stand in the queue to get food.

It's been two weeks since Jungkook transferred to the school, and they still haven't spoken in real life at all since they swapped numbers. Their friends are getting impatient, forced to wait this long just to see both of them happy.

It's been surprisingly stressful.

Taehyung's instincts want him to stay with Jungkook, forever, and never let go of him. But his common sense stops him. And that warring of ideas is bugging him, constantly. It's quite possibly the most difficult his life has ever been.

"Tae, you do realise that he could get tired of waiting?" Jimin points out reluctantly, a worried expression on his face. "He could still reject you."
