I finish up the consultations with Jeon Jungkook over the next few weeks. We don't talk about his true identity, don't even consider the idea that it exists. I don't care about it. I'm here to do a job. Not make a fuss about the fact that he's really a vampire.

And yet when I'm packing my briefcase one day, having completed all of the tests required of his family's household, he glances over at me with those fascinating maroon eyes, in the same cafe as all those weeks ago, a sad look passing over them for a moment. "Is that everything, hyung?"

I bite my lip, snapping the case closed and taking my coat, feeling almost awkward under his gaze. "Yes, Jungkook. Every specialist has now gone to visit your residence and check on the quality of various things. Our job here is done. Thank you for your cooperation."

"And what will you get for your hard work?"
"A pat on the back, and I won't be fired," I say honestly. He shakes his head, and I know he'd be sighing if he needed to breathe. "It's honestly good to keep the job though, so I really don't mind it too much."

He raises a perfectly shaped eyebrow at me. "Is that all you want? No special reward for solving the most difficult case, as a newbie to the company? Nothing at all?" I just shrug.
"What could they give me? If I asked for anything, I'd probably be let off for disrespect with a slap to the wrist."

His eyes go black. "They hit you?" he asks, his voice dangerously calm, his body tensing up slightly with what almost looks like anger.
"Oh, god, no, it's just an expression," I say quickly, keen to calm him down. "Seriously, you don't need to worry. I'll be fine. You can go back to your normal life now. No more boring office meetings."

He nods slowly, frowning slightly as if wanting to say something. But he says nothing, choosing instead to turn to a waitress and pay for our coffees before leaving the cafe without another word. I watch him go, with a sort of disappointment I can't quite explain. The waitress walks over, beginning to clear away the empty coffee cups as I stand there staring at the door swinging shut again.

She glances at me. "You alright, sir?" I jolt at the presence of another voice.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, thank you. Sorry, am I in your way?"
"No, don't worry. He's an interesting character isn't he?"
"Who?"

She tilts her head to the door, which has only just closed. "Your client. There was something almost dangerous about him, it was kind of weird. I was little on the intimidated side, to be honest."
"He's not dangerous, he's just different," I respond automatically, and she smiles a little.

"Attractive too, don't you think?" she says, a hint of cheekiness in her tone. I glance over at her, surprised.
"I never really paid that much attention to it. But I guess so, yeah."

I run a hand through my hair, offering her a scattered smile before beginning to leave myself. And that seems to be the end of my encounters with the young vampire, assuming that he counts as a young person. I have no idea what his real age is. Now I'll never truly know the person that is Jeon Jungkook.

I turn out to be wrong.

I answer my phone to an unknown number maybe a month or two later, only to find myself speaking to a familiar voice.

"Taehyung, is that you?"
"Jungkook? What-"
"Look, this is going to sound weird, but hear me out, okay? Do you have time to talk?"

I look around the office. Nobody seems to need me. "Yeah. Are you alright, Jungkook?" I ask quietly, making sure that I can't be heard by anyone.
"I'm fine, just fine. I wanted to understand the modern world more. I've not left the house in a hundred years, maybe more, and fuck, I have no idea what I'm doing or if I'm being offensive to people and honestly it's the most stressful thing ever, and-"
