"Tyler, dear, we have pretty much been in every store now. You really need to decide what you want to get for Joshua." His mom sighed softly, probably annoyed a bit, going in-and-out of (the same) stores for at least 3 hours now.

Tyler fidgeted with the ends of his scarf, his eyes shooting across the stores. He really really really didn't know what to buy, everything seemed so meaningless and childish and Joshua was anything but meaningless and childish. "Momma, I-I think I-I know!" He suddenly exclaimed, grabbing his moms arm what almost made her trip and drop the bags she was already carrying. She laughed. "Okay, okay. Easy. Finally."

His mom's surprised face made the boy giggle. "You're buying him recordable CD's?" Tyler still giggled, but with a little blush on his cheeks. "Joshua works at a record store, sweetheart. You sure this-" Tyler pulled her arm, to get her walking. "Y-yes, momma. I w-wanna r-record a s-song f-for Joshua." Ever since he started writing and playing music, he had a little setup for recording his work, (most of the time) to be deleted afterwards because he was so unsure about it.

"Oh! That's a really good idea, Ty. One of your own?" Tyler shook his head frantically. "N-no", he bit his lip. "N-not n-now", he added, very well aware of the fact that he never let anyone hear his own songs, not even his mom. And he sure wasn't going to sing his sad songs for Joshua.

"Honey? I'm going to help at church to get everything ready for tonight. I'll be back at 5!" Tyler watched the clock. Good, that gave him two hours. "O-okay momma! B-Bye!"

He quickly skipped to his room, dropping the CD's on his bed and setting up his laptop and the microphone. He sat down behind his keyboard, already knowing what song to play the second this idea popped into his head.
His phone buzzed, and his heart melted.

Brendon caught me thinking 'bout you ;) 💛

Tyler could swear he died on the spot, his smile so big it nearly hurt, his heart so full he was sure it would explode any second and billions of butterflies would fill his room.

Tyler:
😍😍😍😍 miss you 💛💛💛💛💛 your christmas present will be even better now ☺️

He was even more determined now to make this recording the best he ever did and he turned off his keyboard and grabbed his ukelele. It had been a while since he played, but it would be well worth it.

So he set up his microphone, played his ukelele a bit to warm up and make sure it sounded right before sitting up straight and pressing the 'record' button.

"Joshua", he tried so hard not to stutter, feeling so courageous, "t-this one is for y-you." He took a deep breath.

"Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you..."

He finished the song, flawless, in one go. He felt amazing, singing would always keep him from stuttering. For a second he felt confident, but that quickly disappeared when he thought about giving this to Joshua. But he would pull through.

He shortly edited the beginning and ending of the recording, finally copying it onto the CD. With a pink waterproof marker he wrote Joshua's name on it (and a couple of hearts ofcourse), and 'Merry Christmas, xx Ty'. And he was actually proud.

It was then that his mother was back home, and he quickly strutted down the stairs, smile still as bright. His mom didn't question him any further, just glanced at him with a happy smile now and then. They had dinner together, laughing and enjoying Christmas Eve, unwrapping the presents they bought for each other before getting ready for the Midnight Mass.

A/N: some things about church and christmas probably don't make sense. I'm not familiar with the exact traditions, for I am not American and I don't have any experiences of it myself. So, i'm sorry if it is not as in reality, don't take it as an offense please, it's not meant to be disrespectful in any way. At this moment, in this book it is just how it fits the story and my imagination. Xx
