Joshua watched him contently. The boy was helping him getting everything ready for tonight, including the shopping. He was really glad he and his mom were coming over too, his little disfunctional family sort of complete.
"H-how many d-do y-you need?" Tyler asked shyly, snapping Joshua out of his thoughts. "Oh, ehm, grab three bags. That should be fine." Tyler smiled and nodded, getting the bags of huge marshmallows and putting them in their cart. "W-what else?" Tyler asked as he nearly skipped through the isles, making Joshua's heart flutter so bad. How could any human be so incredibly adorable and beautiful? "Hot chocolate", Joshua mumbled.
"You o-okay?" Tyler asked, probably confused by Joshua's short mumbly answer. Joshua smiled. "Yeah. Couldn't be better", he lied a little. These days, as much as he loved everyone who was coming over, always made him miss his parents more than he liked to admit.
Tyler frowned. "I d-don't b-believe you. D-did I d-do something w-wrong?" Joshua shook his head quickly. "No! No. It's not important. We'll talk later, k? Let's get the shopping done first." Tyler nodded, but Joshua saw the uncertain look in his eyes.

----

"Y-you look s-sad", Tyler spoke softly when they were getting al the groceries inside Joshua's house. "I'm fine, Ty", Joshua spoke, he wasn't used to people asking him about what he felt. He was used to always think of others, not the other way around. Tyler frowned again, a determined look on his face when he grabbed the bags of crisps out of Joshua's hands and put them on the kitchen counter. "No, y-you're not. I-I c-can tell."

He thought about avoiding the conversation but he realized he would want Tyler to talk to him too in a situation like this. So Joshua just sighed softly, as he continued unpacking. "I'm okay. Really. It's just on days like these I guess I miss my parents." He opened a cabinet, reaching up to put the bags of crisps in there when he suddenly felt hesitant arms snake around his waist. Tyler pulled his chest close to Joshua's back, his cheek on the man's shoulderblade. "M-sorry", he mumbled. Joshua placed his hands over Tyler's softly. "It would've been nice if they could have met you... and other things, you know?" He felt Tyler nodd. "I mean, i'm fine, I really am. Just miss them." The man shrugged softly, unwrapping Tylers arms from his torso and turning around. "They would've loved you, i'm sure." Tyler blushed, making Joshua smile. "How could they not, look at you", he said before placing a tiny kiss on the boy's nose. "So sweet."

They played Uno for a while, eating pizza and icecream, while waiting for the rest to turn up. When the doorbell rang around 8:30pm Tyler shifted in his seat nervously as Joshua stood up. He gently squeezed the boy's shoulder. "Don't worry, they're all nice people. And I'll be here all the time, okay?" Tyler nodded and took a deep breath before smiling up to the man. Joshua headed to the door, to find his sister there, greeting him with a big hug. Just to make sure he gently tapped her shoulder as she hung up her coat. "Be a little gentle okay? He's nervous about meeting new people." Ashley nodded. "I'm excited to meet him though.  You never introduced me to a boyfriend before", she chuckled, making Joshua roll his eyes.

"Tyler? This is Ashley", he started, getting the boys attention away from the cat on the boys lap. Tyler gently sat the cat aside, got up and with pink cheeks shook Ashley's hand. "H-hi, n-nice to m-meet you!" Ashley smiled, "you too Tyler. Joshua won't shut up about you, so i'm glad I finally get to meet you!" She laughed, making Joshua sigh and Tyler blush even more.

The doorbell rang again before they sat down, Joshua hurrying towards the door. Tyler's mom smiled. "Thank you for inviting us Joshua." He gave her a soft hug. "Ofcourse! Come in!" And just before closing the door Brendon's car got up the driveway. "GET THIS PARTY STARTED", he yelled as soon as he got out of the car. Sarah throwing Brendon a angry look, shaking her head afterwards. "I'm sorry already for Brendon's behaviour. He's so loud today", she laughed as she hugged Joshua.

Joshua saw Tyler's eyes shift nervously from one person to another, his fingers fumbling with a loose thread on his shirt. He quickly made it's way over to the boy, stepping behind him and gently putting his hand in Tyler's neck. "Glad you're all here! For the ones who haven't met yet, this cute boy here is Tyler", he grinned softly as he squeezed Tyler's neck. "And his mom, Kelly." He then walked over to the rest of the people. "This is my little sister Ashley, my friend Brendon, his girlfriend Sarah and his dad Boyd." After a little awkward silence, everybody started talking a bit and introducing themselfs further.

"Shall we get the food out?" Joshua asked Tyler, getting the boys hand in his own, pulling him towards the kitchen. They had set up a cosy tent over the backyard terrace, a heater and small firepit in place. Music was playing softly, chairs and blankets throughout the tent. Everybody made it's way outside, Tyler and Joshua setting all kinds of food on the tables.

Joshua looked around contently when they all were settled after a while, gathered by the fire. Tyler was talking to Ashley and Sarah, and he was happy Tyler seemed to be quite comfortable in their company. Once in a while the boy would search for Joshua or his mom, and just a quick reassuring nod would calm him.

"So", Brendon started as he dropped down on the seat besides Joshua. "You and Tyler. How's that going?" Joshua smiled at the thought. "Good. It's good." Brendon smirked, Joshua already dreading the questions Brendon probably had in mind. "You've been together for a few weeks now? Right?"
"Right."
"Sooooo... has anything, you know, happened yet?" Brendon wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, making Joshua roll his eyes. "I'm not discussing that with you. Here, now. Or at all." He answered. Brendon playfully smacked his arm. "Dude why not? You used to tell me everything", he winked. "Everything. I still expect details later, J." Joshua laughed at that. It was true, he had always told Brendon everything into terrible details. But this was different. "I know, but those times I didn't really care", he spoke before looking at Tyler. "Now I do." Brendon nodded. "Softy", Brendon chuckled.

"You know, J? I never really expected you to end up with a guy, or boy, like Tyler." Brendon stated as he hung back in his seat. "He's not like any other guy you hooked up with, ever."
Joshua shrugged. "I guess?"
"He's young", Brendon continued, Joshua waiting for whatever Brendon's point was, frowning. "But somehow, I think you two fit together well." Joshua nodded and mumbled, "thanks man."
"You needed someone to care for anyway", he laughed, Joshua shoving his shoulder. "What?"
"Oh, come on, J. You're like this big, protective daddy."
"Fuck off, B."

"I'm just kidding", Brendon laughed. "All though it would make perfect sense."
Then he dropped his smile. "No but seriously. I think you two match very well. And I was serious about the 'caring for' and 'protective' thing. You need that, it's your personality man. And he seems to be the perfect guy that could use your care and protection."
And right at that moment, both men watching Tyler, the boy looked up and met Brendon's gaze. His cheeks turned pink and his eyes grew wide a bit, before quickly shifting to Joshua. The man smiled softly, winking at him. The boy looked down bashfully and smiled softly.
"See?" Brendon said and he grinned, just before he got up to get another drink.
