Note: So sorry for the long break guys, i'm just drowning in work and i'm stressed and anxious and I focused on Sober for a bit. Anyway I hope you still enjoy the story, I try my hardest to keep it up more regular 💛
It l-looks nice", Tyler spoke softly when they walked up the porch of Joshua's house. He was almost silent, still feeling guilty. "It does, right?" He answered while opening the frontdoor. "Brendon and I painted it completely, we were busy anyway. The new windows will be put in tomorrow. Glad when that's all done." Tyler just nodded.
"You still feel bad about it, don't you? Guilty?"
Tyler shrugged while taking off his shoes, but softly nodded afterwards. "Hmm", Joshua hummed. "What can I do to convince you that you really really really don't have to feel guilty about it?" Tyler didn't want Joshua to do anything, he already did everything right.
Tyler yelped by surprise when Joshua suddenly slid his hands into the boys sides, his nose nuzzling into his neck. "I could tickle it out?" He chuckled softly, and Tyler tried to quickly take off but Joshua's grip was too firm already, preventing him from his escape.
"No!! N-no!" But Tyler started squealing already as Joshua's fingers dug into his sides. "No! S-stop!" But Joshua continued and kept going until Tylers laughing mixed with tears. In a good way though, Joshua knew not to take it too far. Tyler got a firm grip on Joshua's wrists, panting with a smile on his face as the olders hands finally stopped. "Did it work?" Joshua questioned. "Or do you need mo-."
"No s-stop! It w-worked."
"Okay. Then say it."
"W-what?" Tyler frowned, still slightly out of breath.
"That it is not your fault."
"But-."
"..."
"O-okay. It was n-not my fault." Tyler mumbled.
"What wasn't?"
"J-Joshua, please."
"What wasn't?"
"T-that they trashed y-your house... w-was not my fault."
"Exactly. Now just believe that."
It was silent for a second until Tyler started giggling.
"Y-you sound l-like my mom", he chuckled.
"Tyler!"
The boy laughed even harder now.
"I do not!" Joshua huffed, but internally very pleased with the giggles tumbling from Tylers lips.
"Y-you d-did."
"I was so going to kiss you, but now I feel really weird", Joshua smirked.
"Oh!" The boys cheeks swiftly changed into the beautiful pink tone Joshua loved.
"Y-you can still k-kiss me", he chuckled bashfully, fluttering his eyelashes innocently.
"No. Nope. Maybe later", Joshua laughed and let go of Tyler, then heading off to the kitchen. Tyler still giggled, happily skipping to where ever Joshua was going.
——
"Do y-you want to d-drum for me again?" Tyler asked, his cheeks already burning up because he very well remembered how that ended last time. Joshua laughed as he put away the last dishes. "Why does that make you blush?" He asked, smirk on his face.
"N-no reason", he lied, a goofy smile added to emphasize his statement.
"Right", Joshua narrowed his eyes but kept laughing. "But sure. If you sing for me."
——
"I-I don't know w-what to sing", Tyler mumbled as they had made their way down to Joshua's basement.
"One of your own songs?" Joshua tried. He sat down at the old leather couch in a corner of the basement, Tyler nervously bouncing from one leg to the other as he stood in front of his boyfriend. Tyler shrugged. "D-do you have a-a keyboard?"
Joshua jumped up, opening a big cabinet at the other side, pulling out a keyboard. He quickly dusted it off a bit, smiling apologetically. "Don't know if it sounds right tho." Tyler grabbed it with a slight smile, and set it down on the ground, plugging it in. He chuckled. "It's a keyboard, n-not a piano. I-if it works, i-it should sound just f-fine." It came out way more sassy than he had intended and his eyes grew big when Joshua raised his eyebrows before he laughed. "Woah. Sorry Mr. Joseph." Joshua chuckled as he plopped back down on the couch. Tyler's cheeks flushed, quickly focussing back on the keyboard.
"You don't have to if you really don't want to Ty. I'm not trying to force you", Joshua spoke softly as Tyler had turned his back towards Joshua, trying out the keyboard. "I just love listening to you, and.." he paused as he gently squeezed the boy's neck. "It's like I get to know more about you trough your songs. It's a little peek into that brain of yours."
"Y-yeah, but t-that's why it's s-scary." Tyler started a little melody on the keyboard.
"Is that why you turned your back to me? Less scary?"
"Y-yes."
"Okay. That's okay. Just know that you could literally sing a commercial tune and I would still adore it." Joshua sat back. "Whenever you think you're ready."
A deep breath
Nobody thinks what I think
Nobody dreams when they blink
Think things on the brink of blasphemy
I'm my own shrink
Think things are after me, my catastrophe
At my kitchen sink
You don't know what that means
Because a kitchen sink to you
Is not a kitchen sink to me, okay, friend?
Are you searching for purpose?
Then write something, yeah it might be worthless
Then paint something then, it might be wordless
Pointless curses, nonsense verses
You'll see purpose start to surface
No one else is dealing with your demons
Meaning maybe defeating them
Could be the beginning of your meaning, friend
He stopped there, much to Joshua's disappointment. "Ty?"
"Hmm?"
"I'm not saying this just because i'm biased, but you really should do something with this. The way you write is incredible, really. And with your singing.. fascinating. I'm just... so impressed."
Joshua kept rambling, and Tyler had turned to him, trying not to crack a smile but after all that praise he couldn't contain it.
"S-stop it!" He chuckled. "Y-you make me u-uncomfortable."
"Okay, okay, i'm sorry. But i'm serious tho."
"Your t-turn now", Tyler smiled as he stood up from the floor. And completely unexpected Joshua started singing full out.
"AND I DOOOONT WANT THE WOORRRLD TO SEEEE ME."
Tyler burst out in laughter, as Joshua continued singing as loud and quite possibly as bad as he could.
"Noooo, s-stop", Tyler laughed as he pressed his hands over Joshua's mouth to shush him. "I meant d-drumming! Not s-singing!"
Joshua acted insulted, eyebrows furrowed. "What, you didnt like my singing? I'm shook."
Tyler chuckled. "I bet you c-can sing a lot b-better than you think. D-definitely better than w-whatever you just d-did."
Joshua laughed too as he made his way to the drums. "Okay, well, I will just stick to my drums anyway."
——
"You tired?"
"Hmm", Tyler nodded, as he was finally cuddled up to Joshua. Warm, cosy, comfortable and finally getting the cuddles Joshua had promised him.
Joshua's fingers just gently ran through Tylers hair, as the boy had his cheek resting on the older's chest. Joshua had drummed for him, some slower songs, and Tyler had stared at him in awe. But he was too tired after all those nights with little sleep and lot's of nightmares, so they settled on just getting to bed quite soon.
Tyler loved this the most of all. It was just so peaceful and he was finally surrendering to his tiredness.
"People say there are plenty of fish
In the sea, baby, all I do is wish...
I really wish that you were smaller
Not just small but really, really short
So I could put you in my pocket
And carry you around all day
Oh, you and me
It would be only you and me
Oh, you and me
It would be only you and me"
It was soft and slow, and almost a whisper, but Joshua sang softly, his fingers never stopping caressing Tylers head.
Joshua heard a soft "thank you" and Tyler's arms locked around him a little tighter, before a soft sigh tumbled over the boy's lips, falling asleep.
