Warning you now, in this chapter there is description of suffering and eventual death. If you don't like it please don't read it... I really don't want to upset anyone.
Mikey
My boyfriend was getting weaker and weaker with each passing day. I could feel the pain in his green eyes like it was my own.
It all began with a cough. Innocent enough at first. He'd woken up in the night with a coughing fit, panicking when he couldn't stop. Somehow I'd managed to calm him down, but he'd sat up shaking, not really hearing what I was saying. I'd started to panic then, but he turned to look at me just as I was about to call for the boys.
He said he was fine, just still in a bit of shock.
I accepted that, and we lay back down, falling asleep straight away.
That should've been it then. But the coughing didn't stop. It kept getting worse and worse. I'd worried after the first few days, and begged Brook to take some medicine, seeing as he wasn't one for medicine, and he finally gave in after I burst into tears.
And then for a few days it was like he was better. No coughing. Not one.
And then I realised that he'd hidden some things from me... The random breathlessness, the random chest pains.
I found out late at night after the gym, where he couldn't quite seem to catch his breath. He'd leant against the wall, hunched over slightly, breathing deeply. It took a long time until he'd regained his breath. I'd given him a look, but he'd just smiled and played it off.
I payed close attention then. Noticing whenever he rubbed a hand uncomfortably across his chest, or when he massaged his throat, or whenever he went to get himself a drink. I refused to let him go anywhere alone, begging the boys on my knees for someone to go with him everywhere, at all times.
They were concerned, but they didn't notice the signs that I did.
I still remember the day like it was yesterday, when in fact it had been a month ago.
The five of us hanging out in the Mindy room, watching Netflix on the TV. And then Brook coughed. I tensed immediately, holding my hand out as he sat up a bit. He brushed it away as he coughed again. And again. And again.
Andy paused the film, and turned the lights back on. He stood up wordlessly and returned with a glass of water, giving me a look. I sat up beside him, rubbing his back as he coughed again. He was going red in the face, and the coughs sounded harsh. I watched as Brook raised a hand to his chest, rubbing it harshly before coughing again.
He took the drink from Andy and sipped it, not coughing for a few minutes.
"Brooky?" I murmered, but he ignored me. He just inhaled heavily, shakily letting out his breath. I watched him, my heartbeat raised, hand still outstretched.
The boys were oddly silent.
I froze. "Brook..." I trailed off, watching as Andy's eyes widened.
"Brook you're bleeding..." I watched as blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth. He wiped it away quickly, and stood up fast, too fast. He clutched his head and stumbled, and I leant forwards to catch him before he hit the ground.
"Woah, easy Brooky..." I calmly spoke, even though I was anything but calm. Rye was pacing, and Jack and Andy followed me and Brook to floor, placing a pillow beneath his head.
Blood continued to trickle from his mouth.
I made the decision. "Rye... call an ambulance."
