Brooklyn

Mikey stayed by my side for the rest of the night.

I think the boys could tell that he wasn't going to let me go anytime soon, so they all retreated back into their rooms, Andy following Rye into the Rarvey room. As soon as the doors shut I pulled Mikey even closer, resting my chin on his shoulder. I just held him, knowing that this was what he needed more than anything.

"Mikey? What's all this about?" I asked softly, resuming our gentle swaying. I knew him to be worried, but I'd never seen him in this much of a state before.

"I thought something had happened to you, and that's why you didn't come back... why you didn't reply to any of my messages." He croaked weakly.

I pulled away then, holding his face in my hands. It was clear he was close to tears, because his eyes were watering, and they were all red and puffy.

"Hey... enough of that alright? I'm fine... oh Mikey why do you worry so much?" I couldn't help but let out a weak laugh, before I hugged him again.

"I don't know." Was his disheartened response.

"Right... I'm just gonna have a quick shower, and then I'll come straight back alright? Wait for me in your room and I'll be there as soon as I can." I spoke quietly, sighing silently when he nodded into me.
It usually wasn't a good sign of he wasn't talking.

He squeezed me tight one last time, before walking away, wiping his eyes.

He always worried. About everything and everyone. Way too much. But it was why we all loved him... because he cared enough to worry like that.

A pair of boxers landing on my face made me jump.

"What... Mikey!" I cried out in fake annoyance, but a grin covered my face when I picked them off, unsure if they were clean or dirty... who they belonged to was my main concern.

But it was as if he could read my mind.

"They're yours Brooklyn! And they're clean. Now hurry up!" Mikey called back with a laugh, but I heard the shakiness to it, the wobble to his words, the rawness to his voice.

In other words, Mikey was still shaken up about it, and I couldn't help but feel guilty.

"I'll be fifteen minutes at most mate!"
I shouted back as I stepped into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.

The slight chill that had settled in my bones had faded altogether, and I threw on the first clean jumper I laid eyes on... I couldn't tell if it was Rye's or Mikey's... but at this point I didn't really care.

In record time I headed into the Mindy room, knowing that Mikey would be extra clingy tonight.

He always was when something like this happened to any one of us.
It was endearing to all four of us, although none of us ever explicitly told him that.

He also got clingy when he was scared, even if he never admitted it.

My heart twisted uncomfortably the second I laid eyes on my friend.
Mikey was sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands. I could see his shoulders quivering and shaking, a sight that made me hate my entire existence.
I'd done that to him because I hadn't charged my bloody phone! Because I hadn't thought about where the hell I was going!
