Rye

I gasped suddenly, and then clenched by jaw as pain hit my abdomen.
I gripped onto the sink of my bathroom, groaning quietly.

But almost as quickly as the pain had arrived, it had faded. I frowned, confused as to what had just happened. I pressed my hand onto my abdomen gently, prodding it all over. No pain... just tenderness. Nothing more.
What...?

"Rye? Are you ready?" I heard Brooklyn yell through my door.

"Give me five more minutes Brooky!" I called back, swallowing sharply. I still needed to get dressed, have my breakfast and I also needed to calm down... there was no way I was letting Brook, or any of the boys, see me like this. Brook would panic, and would relentlessly question me.

"Okay... we're all heading down stairs. We'll meet you down there!" He replied, and the door to the flat opened.

"See you in a bit babe." I acknowledged, biting my lip.

I let out a breath I hadn't realised I'd been holding when the door slammed shut.

What the hell was going on with me?

I scrambled into my room to throw on a jumper and a pair of shorts. We had lots of travelling to do today, so I opted for comfort rather than style.

But just as I was about to get some food my abdomen twinged again. Not anticipating it I fell into the wall with a quiet thud, squeezing my eyes shut. A drop of sweat rolled down my face, but I ignored it. This time the pain lasted for a few seconds longer, and it hurt just that little bit more than last time.

I was on my knees, whimpering, by the time it dissipated. Wiping the tears from my eyes I gingerly stood, moaning when my abdomen ached.
Brilliant.
Sighing, I took one look at the kitchen before I turned away.

I wasn't hungry anymore.

This pain kept coming and going for the next few hours. I'd managed to hide it so far, clamping my jaws shut if it happened in the minivan. I'd taken the spot at the back, curled up on the seat, 'asleep', so that no one would bother me. Brook had come to check on me a few times, but I hadn't 'woken up'. I hid my smile in my jumper the few times he'd pressed a gentle kiss to my head.

He was absolutely the best.

But I knew I wasn't going to be able to hide it much longer. I was sweating so much, the pain growing and growing with each reappearance, and I knew my body trembling from anticipation and the shock of such a prolonged pain.

We'd stopped at a red light (because I'd sneeked a peek out the window), and unfortunately the boys chose to be silent the next time pain stabbed me in the abdomen. I curled up even tighter, but I couldn't prevent the gutteral groan that escaped my lips. My hands moved straight to my abdomen and stomach, trying to relieve some of the pressure, but it didn't work. I twisted uncomfortably in my seat, hiding my face because I knew I was crying again.

"Rye?" I heard Brook ask, but I didn't respond. I whimpered instead, swallowing repeatedly when I felt nausea rise in my throat.

I was not going to throw up... maybe I was ill?

"Rye look at me." A hand rested on my shoulder, while the other wormed its way into my jumper to uncover my face.

I kept my eyes shut, and writhed as it felt like bullets pierced my skin.
A hand gently stroked my cheek, and I leaned into the touch.
