Brooklyn

Rye's Tourette's were different that a lot of peoples. Everyone just assumed it was a speech impediment, but that wasn't the case. Rye's were more noises, instead of speaking, and his were actions too.

For example he constantly sniffed, and coughed, all day everyday; and half the time he didn't even know he was doing it. Which was one of the reasons why I loved him. And if he did notice he was doing it, he just carried on like nothing was happening.

And whenever Rye fiddled with his hands, I knew he was anxious about something. He also fiddled with my hands too, and from that I knew it was bad.

It didn't happen often, but enough for me to clock it.

Rye had slept in my bed last night, not feeling being alone in his massive room. He'd timidly knocked and walked in, sniffing a few times, before asking.

"Can I stay with you tonight?"

In way of response I just lifted my covers up with a smile, smiling all the more when he cuddled into me.

"Anything on your mind Rye?"

"I just don't want to be alone."

I'd left it then, knowing that he would talk when he wanted to talk. I kissed him lightly on the lips before settling down, wrapping my arms around my boyfriend.

It was the next morning that I realised something was bothering him.

We had still yet to leave my room, Rye opting to stay and watch Netflix with me. It was a leisurely morning, as we had no plans until later on that night, so there was no rush to get up and get ready. Something of a rarity these days.

But at some point Rye had fallen asleep on me, which made me giggle. He always fell asleep on me during the day, another endearing thing about him.

He was using my stomach as a pillow, head turned towards me, giving me a look at his peaceful face. But I could tell that he was still stressed. The lines om his forehead told me so.

Rye woke up and hour or two later with a yawn, and I watched the slow process of him taking in his surroundings, trying to remember where he was.

"Hey." I whispered, when he looked at me. He smiled, lifting his hand up, moving towards my face.

"Boop." He tapped my nose with his index finger.

I laughed gently, taking his hand in mine with a sigh. "Did you have a nice sleep?"

"Yeah... I'm still tired though." He said.

He sat up and cuddled into me again, seeing as I had the pillows stacked up behind me.

He was extra cuddly today, I noted with a rueful smirk.

Rye was sniffing a lot, but it was normal. Just like the coughing. But a minute or so later he began to play with my hands, and that's when I realised I had messed up; big time.

"What's up?" I asked softly, stilling his hands gently with a squeeze. Rye sniffed a few times.

"It's nothing." He bit his lip, and I sighed, unimpressed.

"C'mon Rye, I know you." I chuckled, rubbing my thumbs in soothing circles on the palms of his hands; I knew that it always calmed him down.

"It's just... I don't know. I just feel... I don't know." He coughed, laying down again with his head resting on my legs.

I played with his hair, working to calm him down some more. So far, it seemed to be working.

I laughed softly, bending down to kiss his cheek. "You're adorable."

"It's this new house. I feel like it's too big sometimes. I feel so alone sometimes." He said quietly.

I understood where he was coming from though. The five of us had started out in one room, often sharing beds. And now we had a whole massive house to ourselves. It was a big change, and I wondered if any of us would ever get used to it.

"Is that why you wanted to stay with me?" I inquired.

"Yeah..."

"You know, you can stay with me, or any of the boys, any time you want. I'm sure they wouldn't mind," I said, "Because I definitely don't." I added, trying to reassure him in any way possible.

"Are you sure?"

He sounded so small and unsure of himself, and I wanted nothing more than to protect him from everything. From every insecurity he would ever have.

"Yeah. A hundred percent!" I replied enthusiastically.

I knew that the boys wouldn't mind one bit. I think there came a point in every day that we all missed rooming together like we did in Blair's place.

"Okay." I heard him stifle a yawn, and I realised something.

"Wait... you haven't been sleeping have you? That's why you're always falling asleep during the day."

I clocked, but I had clocked it too late. I mentally scolded myself.

"Maybe."

He rolled over and looked at me, sitting up slowly. Sniffed and coughed. Took my hands in his.

"Rye, I didn't realise it was this bad."

I hung my head in shame.

Why didn't I notice this? He was my boyfriend after all... I should notice these things.

"I love you B." He said quietly, hiding his face in my shoulder.

"I love you too Rye."

I closed my eyes with a sigh, drawing him closer to me.
