Jack

I woke up coughing at three in the morning for the third time that particular week.

I sat up shakily, leant over the side of my bed and coughed. The noise and jolting movements did little to soothe my headache, and I let out a groan after the fit had ended. I took a few deep breaths, trying to orientate myself as I had just woken up, and I rubbed my eyes.

I wanted to go right back to sleep, but luck wasn't on my side.

The second I had sat up the mucus and snot started to drain out of my nose, and I let out a whimper of despair.

I just wanted to sleep, but this sinus infection had been keeping me up all hours of the night.

I knew from this point I wouldn't be going back to sleep, as my nose was literally the embodiment of a water fountain. The thought made me smile, but I the smile vanished when I felt the urge to sneeze.

Four sneezes later, I breathed heavily, in through my mouth, and out again through my mouth; my nose was blocked anyway, so I knew there was no point in even trying.

With a yawn I sat up. leant against my pillows, and slumped down slightly, exhausted.

I wished Brook were here...

I reached for my phone and called Brook. I really didn't care that it was early in the morning, and that he was probably asleep.

"Jackie?" He said, his voice deep.

"Can you come here?" I asked quietly, congested and weak.

I coughed once, sniffed when I felt my nose run again.

"Yeah, yeah I'll be right there."

Brooklyn sounded much more awake, and before I could reply he hung up. I smiled, put my phone back down on my bedside table.

With another cough I settled down a bit more. I reached across my bed for the box of tissues and pulled a handful out, sprinkled them on my chest. I wiped my nose with one, my eyes prickling with tiredness and exhaustion.

"Babe?"

The door opened and closed softly, and when I turned my head I saw Brook pad over softly, his hair in all directions.

I laughed, but coughed again. Then my headache spiked up; I closed my eyes and grimaced.

The bed dipped beside me, and I felt a hand on my forehead.

"You've still got that fever Jackie." Brook whispered, his other hand running through my hair.

"I feel awful." I whimpered, wiped my nose with one of the many tissues.

"It's the sinus infection," my boyfriend murmured, voice full of sympathy, "have you had a drink?"

I wordlessly point to the side, where I know I had a full glass of water; it had probably gone stagnant and disgusting, but it was still water.

"Okay. Do you need anything?" Brooklyn asked softly.

"You. I want cuddles."

I reached my arms out like a child, opened my eyes, and saw Brook's face in the moonlight.

Tired, but soft, and full of adoration; for me. He climbed into bed beside me, being the big spoon for a change, and pulled me into his chest. One of his hands rubbed my chest gently, his other resting next to one of my hands. I grabbed onto it and tugged it into me side, and I heard Brook chuckle gently.

"Get comfortable. I'll stay right here." He whispered, kissed my hair.

I tried to breathe normally, but my nose was still blocked.

Within minutes I was settled and about to fall asleep, Brooklyn having slowly started to drift off beside me, but another coughing fit took over my body.

I wrenched myself from Brooklyn's arms and sat up, swung my legs over the side of the bed. I coughed deep, chesty coughs, made sure to wipe my nose with the tissues.

My shirt was off, having been too hot before, and I shivered when a cold hand started to rub my back gently.

"Shush it's alright Jackie."

Brooklyn rested his chin on my shoulder and kissed the back of my neck.

I shivered again.

I whined in frustration. I. Just. Wanted. To. Sleep. But this infection wasn't letting me.

And then I realised I was crying, for some reason.

Arms wrapped themselves around my waist from behind and I leaned back onto them, hiding my face in my hands. The crying only made the congestion worse, and my runny nose worse, and I was so tired.

"Hey, hey! You're fine." Brooklyn soothed gently, and I just cried some more.

"But I'm so tired Brooky! I haven't slept for days."

"Sleep will come soon. Trust me on that." He said softly, squeezed my hips slightly.

I nodded weakly, sniffed. But it was no use; I was so bunged up by this point.

"Come on, we'll lie back down, and we'll get some sleep Babe." Brooklyn nuzzled my shoulder.

I leant back with him, but turned around in his arms so my head was on his chest.

"What are you doing?" He chuckled as he looked down at me.

"Listening to your heart." I said, closed my eyes.

"You're a cutie."

Brooklyn kissed my head and bundled me up in his arms, his head on mine.

The steady rhythm of his heart slowed me down, calmed me down. Calmed me down enough to fall limp against my boyfriend.

"That's it. Go to sleep." Brooklyn whispered into my ear.

I was glad to say that I finally did fall asleep.
