'Sir, Sir!'

The sound of a man's shouts made me groggily open my eyes. My head rang. My chest ached. My arms felt numb.

I groaned. The sound vibrated to my ears. My ears rang.

Something prodded my leg, and my eyes suddenly snapped open when pain flickered throughout my body.

It was dark. There were sounds I didn't recognise. Everything hurt. My head still ached.

'What's happening?' I slurred, but I didn't know how loud my voice was.

I tried to move, but an intense pain rippled throughout my body. I moaned.

'Sir? Are you awake?' The same voice from before, only it sounded much clearer than last time.

I went to nod, but my head started to spin. I swallowed nausea, and wondered why I felt so lightheaded.

'Yeah,' I spoke.

And then everything rushed back to me.

I remembered the taxi being hit. The taxi swerving. Spinning out of control. A few rolls. Hand in hand with Andy. Shouts of fear escaped our lips. Then darkness.

Wait...

'Where's Andy?' I asked, blinking and blinking away.

'Your boyfriends beside you. He's still unconscious,' the voice said.

I recognised it as our taxi driver.

'What do you mean?'

'The car's flipped, and it landed on his side... I can't get to him.'

I moaned again, and finally my eyes stayed open for longer than a few seconds.

'The ambulance is already on its way... are you hurt anywhere?' The taxi driver asked.

I looked around, for the first time realising why I was so lightheaded. I was pinned to the roof kind of, stuck in place by my seatbelt, despite the taxi being turned on its side. With blurry vision I checked myself over, ran my hands shakily over my body.

The pain was manageable.

'I'm fine,' I called.

'You don't look it,' came the voice again.

I looked to my left, saw the taxi driver had climbed up onto the car and reached through the shattered window beside me. He seemed fine, a few cuts and bruises, nothing major.

I swallowed bile. I felt sick to my stomach.

'I'm fine,' I repeated.

'Just hold tight. The ambulance should be nearly here,' he said.

My hands fumbled around the seatbelt.

'No. No I need to check on Andy. I need to find Andy,' I muttered.

And anyway, my head really hurt, and I needed to be upright.

'No... no stay put!' He shouted, reached for my arm to stop me.

But he was too late. I unclipped myself and fell slightly, before I caught myself on the passenger seat.

Everything hurt. My head pounded. My arm felt wrong. I still felt sick. I took a few breaths to steady myself with, and then I looked over to Andy.
