You were all gonna kill me otherwise, so...

Andy

I landed on my bed with an audible 'ooof', my head fighting my heart.

So far my head was winning, but my heart was gaining ground; I could feel my resolve shattering.

I still hated him. I didn't trust him.

But I didn't want to hate him. I wanted to trust him.

I couldn't though. Not after what he'd done. To me, and to the girl. He didn't even know her name... who does that?

But his face, his words... he knew what he had done was wrong. He blamed himself, he was ashamed of what he had done. And he had understood that I might not forgive him.

"I try to forgive you, but I struggle 'cause I don't know how."

That particular One Direction lyric suddenly flowed through me. It was true.
I wanted to forgive him... I missed him, I missed my best friend... my ex boyfriend. But I didn't know how to forgive him; I didn't think I could.

I groaned and buried myself in my bed covers.

I hated this.

Rye

I wiped away the sweat on my forehead with the back of my hand, setting down the spade gently. I took a swig of water, rinsing the dry taste from my mouth.

I'd barely been in the house for the last week, working on something for Andy. I looked towards the tree, where Alex and Jack were stringing up fairly lights along the branches, made them so they dangled to the floor in some places. They'd already built the small bench for me whilst I had been planting the flowers around the border, which I appreciated.
They could have left me to do it alone, but they hadn't.

Whilst this was happening however, Mikey, Brook and Robbie were distracting Andy, but not making it obvious so that he would suspect something.

I coughed into my arm, hating how my body trembled.

Admittedly, I'd barely slept lately. Too deep in my guilt and my decisions. But recently, I'd been distracting myself with making this for Andy, spending all of my free time on it; hence why I was barely in the house.

Whenever I couldn't sleep I'd come out and work on it for a few hours, but before I knew it the sun would be coming up.

Another sleepless night it would have been. But at the same time I didn't care... it had to be perfect.

"Rye? Are you coming in for dinner?"

I blinked as I looked up, seeing Jack and Alex had finished their bits.

I shook my head. "No... save something for me?"
I reached down to pick the spade up, making a start on the next patch of flowers I had yet to plant.

"Alright, please don't work yourself so hard."

And then they walked towards the house, creeping out of the trees a distance away from where we actually were.

I didn't want Andy finding it before it was finished.

So anyway, I carried on working until the sky turned dark, and I was shocked when I eventually noticed. I guess I'd been so engrossed in the repetitive actions of digging and planting that I got lost inside myself at some point.
The fairy lights were on, and I stepped back to admire the view. Jack and Alex had really done a great job with them; they crawled along the branches, trailed to the floor, looped around and around.
