Rye

Slight warning bells rang in my head when Jack stayed quiet. Usually, he'd be jumping from the walls, and talking non stop, but today he wasn't himself. Not by a long shot.
We'd started filming, and that was the first thing I noticed; just how quiet Jack was being.
I glanced at the other's, but none of them had noticed the change in our friend.

No one except me. Oh well, I guess I'd just have to keep an eye on him.

Keeping an eye on my friend and singing was a nightmare to do at the same time, but somehow I achieved it.

Not long into the recording Jack nonchalantly clung onto my arm when I tried to pick something up, and he pulled it close to his chest. I frowned discreetly at his behaviour, but made no move to retract my arm. Instead of reacting to it, I hid my frown behind a smile, not wanting to bring any attention to his behaviour in the middle of a video.
I guess we could always cut it out later, but I didn't think that Jack would like being questioned right now.

He was still being so quiet as well.

I tried to focus on singing with Andy then, as we were trying to find the right pitch, but every now and then my eyes flickered to Jack, who, out of the corner of my eye, I could see was sinking further and further into the sofa. He just looked so out of it and... just done with the day altogether.

He looked tired...

It hit me then and there what was happening with him. I abruptly cut off from singing, earning me an exasperated look from Andy. I felt slightly guilty, but I didn't dwell on it. I went right back to singing, and slowly Andy managed to work in everyone's voices into the harmony.

I was so engrossed in singing that I didn't even bat an eyelid when Jack started hugging my knee as he sang, leaning very heavily onto me. I flickered my gaze to him with a soft smile, knowing that he must be so tired to show this level of affection in front of the other boys, and in the middle of filming too.

I felt Mikey stare at me for longer than necessary when Jack rested his head on my shoulder, and I felt myself lean closer to him, wrapping an arm around his body. Mikey gave me a questioning look when I briefly made eye contact with him, but I subtley shrugged. I mean, what the hell was I supposed to say right now? We were in the middle of filming, and plus we were nearly finished anyways.

I never knew that Jack was a cuddler... now I had some ammunition for when he really peed me off.
I stifled a laugh, not wanting to get on Andy's nerves any more than I already had done.
But I knew that I'd never use it against him. Jack was just being affectionate, and just wanted attention. He was tired, and I could never fault him for that.

I smiled at him again, gently nudging him when I saw that his eyes had closed. Jack sat up a bit straighter then, making me chuckle, and then I zoned back into Brook and Andy's conversation.

It must've been an unconscious movement, but before I knew it Jack's fingers were threaded through mine on my lap, and at some point I'd started to rub my thumb in circles across his knuckles. Once I had noticed however, I didn't react. I shrugged again, mainly to myself, and just carried on like nothing had happened.
