Brooklyn
'Ryan,' I whine playfully from the doorway, smile on my face.
Rye chuckled at my attempt to distract him, and he shook his head. Carried on slaving away over the hob.
'If you want to eat tonight, leave me in peace?'
I sighed. 'Jackie?'
'Sorry Brook! Maybe later on,' he called from the sink, his back to me. Washed up the mountain of dirty plates and bowls and cutlery, alongside whatever Rye made dirty whilst cooking.
I felt my face drop.
'I just want a cuddle,' I said softly. I didn't dare walk into the kitchen, as I knew Rye would lose his cool very soon after if I lingered around him. Jack too. They best worked in silence when it came to menial tasks.
'I know Babe... later yeah? I promise,' Rye trained his eyes on me with a small smile, and I nodded.
'Okay,' I said.
Rye went right back to work, Jack not having even turned around. I turned and walked upstairs quietly, as I knew that Robbie, Alex, and Connor were busy editing; I didn't want to disturb them. They had a hard enough job as it was... they didn't need me thundering up the stairs.
Mikey was the next bet. I all but skidded to his door, knocked, and walked in.
'Mikey! Can I...'
I lowered my voice when I saw he had a phone pressed to his ear, and my hand dropped. His eyes looked apologetic and remorseful, even more so with the blue, but I managed a smile. I kissed his forehead and backed away with an apology and shut the door. Sighed when I heard it shut.
Why was I so childish? Why couldn't I just amuse myself for a while? Why did I always need attention?
Oh well... there was still Andy. Maybe he'd give me the attention I craved.
I did hesitate, however I made my way to Andy's room. My feet padded on the wooden floor, and I knocked lightly on the door. I waited a few seconds before I pushed it open gently, heard no answer.
My heart dropped in disappointment when I saw why.
Headphones on. Sat at his desk, playing around with something or other; I guessed he was in the middle of producing something.
'Andy?' I asked.
No response. With a sigh I walked over, made myself known to my boyfriend out of his peripheral vision. Despite me keeping a distance, he still jumped and jolted his knee on the underside of his desk with a shout when he saw me.
'Oh my God, I'm sorry!' I said frantically when Andy let out a guttural groan of pain. I rushed over, but he waved me away after he took his headphones off.
'No worries... it happens,' Andy said tightly. From his face I knew his knee was causing him pain.
'Still... I'm sorry,' I said, and took a step away.
Andy smiled softly at me. 'Stop apologising,' he said. I nodded in reply.
'I'm going to take this,' I gestured to his set up, 'as a sign you're busy, huh?' I asked, frown on my face.
My boyfriend stood, eyed me gently. I could see the stress clear as day on his face, his lack of sleep in the circles under his eyes, but it seemed to drain away when he looked at me.
'You look sad,' he declared. Rested his hands on my shoulders. Warmth flooded my body.
'I wanted a cuddle but everyone's busy,' I said. I realised how childlike I sounded, and I hated myself for it. I couldn't go an hour or two without one of the boys... what was wrong with me?
But Andy only chuckled and pulled me in for a hug, held me close. 'Only you, Brooky. Only you,' he murmured quietly.
I hugged him back just as tight, nuzzled my face into the crook of his neck with a content sigh.
'You're tense, Brooky.'
I hadn't noticed before; I guessed I was anxious and worried about annoying Andy. I guessed I just needed a boyfriend to hug away the tension.
'Cuddle me?' I asked quietly.
Andy laughed. 'Come on, let's go lay down until Rye's finished butchering dinner.'
I smiled, and let him lead me to his bed. He brushed aside Frodo, and we curled up together on top of the covers, the air too hot to even think of slipping beneath them.
Despite being shorter, Andy was the big spoon, and pulled me to his chest, a strong arm around my waist. I burrowed back, and closed my eyes.
'Don't go to sleep Brooklyn, please. Otherwise I'll have to get Rye and Jack and Mikey to help me wake you up... and you don't want that,' he threatened with a smile.
I winked an eye open and looked over my shoulder.
'You're evil. Pure evil,' I said.
'Yeah, but you love me,' Andy said, rested his chin on my shoulder. With him that close, I could feel the tension and anxiety leave my body.
We stayed there for at least twenty minutes. Not talking. Just laid in silence, and enjoyed the other's company.
Then there was a knock on the door, and Mikey and Jack spilled in.
'Room for two more?' Mikey whispered.
'There's always room,' Andy murmured. Jack climbed onto the bed behind Andy, and Mikey slipped on beside me, so we were face to face. He smiled a little sadly, and pecked my lips.
'I'm sorry about earlier... my mum called,' he said.
'It's alright, you don't have to apologise,' I said. Kissed his lips.
I felt a hand on my waist; Jack.
'Just so you know, Rye's gonna come up to get us when food's ready,' he warned.
I slipped into a weird place of sleep, but wide awake, where I kept zoning out for minutes at an end. I could hear my boys talking softly at each other. I felt a pair of legs intertwine with mine. Fingers on my waist. Arms around my chest.
Only Rye was missing.
'Guys? Dinners ready,' Rye said.
I jumped a little, hadn't even noticed he'd come in.
They all kissed my head as they left, knew that Rye wanted to talk a little before we went down after. I sat up with a yawn, and Rye's hand went straight to my hair to ruffle it. He pulled me up and into his arms, twirled us around.
'I'd give anything to hug you all day every day Brooky,' he said softly. Pressed kisses on the top of my head, my forehead. My temples. My cheeks. My nose, with a giggle from me.
'I know Rye. I'm sorry for badgering on about it,' I said.
Rye made a noise that sounded to me like he disagreed.
'Don't ever be sorry Brooklyn... I like it. It's cute how you always want to be around one of us,' Rye reassured.
I lifted my head from his shoulder and stepped back a little.
'You sure?' I asked, not at all sure of myself.
He cupped my cheeks and I couldn't take my eyes away from his brown ones. 'Positive.'
He kissed my lips lightly, hugged me again.
I blushed in embarrassment when my stomach rumbled out of nowhere.
'Come on then, I know you're hungry,' Rye laughed with a huge smile on his face.
I slapped his chest with no force whatsoever. 'Shut up.'

"In hopes you're on the other side, talking to me too."
