The ceilings were high, chandeliers hung low. The light from them reflecting off the glasses creating a magnificent shine on everyone and everything. The floor a crystal granite that went well with the dark gray walls. I couldn't believe how amazingly sculpted this school was, well I could. It's one of the main schools I've heard many good things about. Now I'm one of the students that's going to be attending this amazing school. The students. I just now realized how many people walked passed me and up the stairs, some coming down, some caring boxes to their rooms. The teachers were giving directions as to where they should go. This is going to be nerve racking, I thought as I bit my lip.
"Kat this is amazing!!" Ali said running over to me with a bright expression on her face. She grabbed my arm, " Yeah pretty cool" I told her, continuing to look around.
I spotted the front desk and I told Ali I would meet her back at the car after I got my schedule and found out what room I had.
"Hi, my name is Katerina Anderson" I said to the lady. Her name was Ruby, bright red on her name tag. This really is a preppy school.
" Hello, is this your first time here?" She asked, looking through the list of other students I assumed. She kept a smile on her face.
"Yes, it is" she handed me my paper.
"Well, welcome to Tampa University, my name is Ruby and I'm always at the front desk if you need anything".
I smiled, "Thank you" I said turning around to walk back outside to the car.
I was reading the paper, my head down when I bumped into someone.
"Hey! Why don't you watch where your going" the girl said.
I picked up my paper off the floor and stood up to apologize to her, "I'm so sorry"
"Yeah I bet you are, next time I won't be as nice" she said, giving me an evil glare before her and her friends, I'm guessing, walked away. Oh god, I just got here and I have people who hate me already? I swallowed. It's like high school all over again, I said to myself.
"Kat!! Come here!" I heard Ali say. I ran out, down the stairs and to the car, "yeah sorry" I said immediately, I looked back at the school, "hey, what's wrong? We just got here and your having second thoughts already" Ali said, smiling.
"Well-" I started,
"No, she's not. She's gonna have an amazing time here" Mom said, giving me a hug then taking the paper out of my hand.
"Hunny its Room 308, come on" my mom said to my dad, who had a butt load of stuff in his hands to carry up to my room. They started up the stairs to the entrance and Ali, Jason and I followed. My mom and dad went ahead and I stayed put with Jason and Ali so they could get their schedule too.
Jason and Ali decided they would go to the same school I was attending. Ali actually forced Jason and he took up the offer since it was a pretty good school, even his parents agreed. And of course, Ali thought me and her should go to the same school since we've known each other for the longest. I actually don't want to know what it would feel like to be by myself; without having Ali there with me. Don't get me wrong I have been by myself sometimes but college is one hundred times worse and it makes me super nervous. Besides it's a new school, I wouldn't know what to do. She's always the one who makes the decisions.
At least sometimes, I thought laughing a little.
"Uhh Kat, come here please" Ali said looking at her schedule. Jason was still at the counter talking to Ruby.
" Yeah?" She looked at me.
I looked at her. "What is it?"
She said, "This is your building. Your major is biology right? This school is so big, they have two different buildings with different majors and since my major is medicine..." she trailed off.
"Are you kidding me?" I snatched the paper. She was right. I swallowed, which was like the hundredth swallow since I'd gotten here. Great. Tears filled my eyes but I blinked them back. I looked up at Ali. It was a bad idea to think about not having her around and now, it's true. She won't be around for like ever. But it's okay right? Isn't it? I asked myself. I bit my lip and gave her words I never in a million years would've thought of saying.
"Good for you" I gave her back the paper and smiled.
"What? Your actually okay with this?" She asked me.
"Yes your right next door and if there's anything I need, I will call or text you right away" I explained. She gave me a glare.
"Hey babe! I'm in the same building as you!" Jason said, he ran up to Ali and picked her up and spun her around. She laughed and everyone started staring. But of course she didn't care. I'm gonna miss that laugh. Why am I like this? It's not like she's going away across the globe or something.
"And now you have Jason" I shouted after her, Jason pulled her toward the car to unload her things and his and they headed toward the other building. Just in time to see my parents come out from my building.
"Where's Ali and Jason?" My mom asked, giving my dad a small massage. I'm guessing he pulled something carrying my things upstairs like he always does.
"Those steps are a killer, be careful going up and down Katerina" he said.
"Thanks Dad, and I promise to be careful. With everything" I started walking toward him and he smiled, giving me a hug.
"And remember I said no parties, I don't want to have to come all the way down here to drag you back home. You know I can have you home schooled"
"Daaaad, it's fine. And I don't want to be home schooled and plus its college remember?" I walked over to my mom, rolling my eyes and shaking my head.
She gave me an even tighter hug, "oh honey. I'm going to miss you and so is your dad" she pulled away from me, "you be careful and remember what I said during our conversation the other day" she said, starting to walk back to the car. She gave me the 'I got my eyes on you look' with her two fingers and sat in the passenger seat.
"Oh! I almost forgot" I crossed my arms and she handed me my schedule, "so did I" I said, waving it in the air after she gave it to me.
My dad began to back out of the parking space and I watched as my mom hung out the window blowing kisses to me and waving goodbye. This is going to be a very long first semester. I turned my whole body around and begin to walk up the entrance stairs, through the front doors to the other set of stairs and headed toward my room.
